Dr. Nancy Kosgei, Director Morendat Institute of Oil and Gas today represented the Acting Managing Director, KPC PLC Mr. Pius Mwendwa at the CEO’s breakfast in Uganda before the official opening of the 11th Annual Oil and Gas Convention being held at Speke Resort Convention Center.
Speaking during the breakfast, Hon. Dr. Canon Ruth Nankabirwa Ssetamum, Minister for Energy and Mineral Development who was the chief guest said “Uganda’s acquisition of a 20.15% stake in Kenya Pipeline Company PLC through the Uganda National Oil Company was a strategic investment to safeguard national energy security”. “Uganda’s heavy reliance on KPC infrastructure for petroleum imports makes the company critical to the country’s fuel supply chain. By becoming a shareholder, Uganda secures greater influence in decision-making, including representation at board level and a stronger voice on tariffs, operations, and long-term planning” she emphasised.
The Minister framed the investment as a form of “energy insurance”, designed to ensure stable, affordable, and reliable access to petroleum products while reducing vulnerability to external supply disruptions.
“This move is a catalyst for strengthening regional cooperation between Uganda and Kenya, supporting broader East African energy integration and infrastructure development” she highlighted.
