⚡️🎤JLF has been a proud supporter of Unity Charity’s Engage Program, which uses Hip-Hop art to build community, resilience, and enhance social inclusion for marginalized youth in Toronto.
On April 30, our President Marianne Larsen attended The Jump Off, a Hip Hop Party that celebrates Hip hop and community hosted by @unitycharity . Marianne was joined by Mahah Shoaib, Executive Director (pic 1 and 6) and the amazing people at Unity.🪩💃🕺
More about the Engage Program we support: it provides free, weekly workshops for marginalized youth, and help young people develop expertise in dance, beat production, spoken word, and MCing. Workshops are led by facilitators whose own journeys mirror those of the participants, fostering deep trust and mentorship. Beyond the arts, the program helps youth build the resilience and social connections needed to thrive.
Stay tuned 🚨we’ll be sharing a second post shortly with videos and highlights that capture the incredible energy and talent from The Jump Off showcase!

Grateful for moments like this.
Huge thank you to @foomanchoo@pamelachoseme@unitycharity for the invitation to be part of such a meaningful panel. Being in a room with so many hungry, ambitious dancers and artists, ready to build and expand their careers, was powerful. The energy, the questions, the passion… it’s what keeps this culture alive and growing.
I feel truly blessed and humbled to have shared that space alongside Vince and Gill, real pillars who have put in years of work to grow and elevate our community. Much respect.
These are the moments that remind me why we do this. Each one teach one. Let’s keep building. 💯👊🏽
My dopest clients celebrated their 19th birthday
—The org, not the people 😜—

Every project we’ve worked on together, I’ve observed the tremendous impact of Unity’s programming and community approach.
I’m honoured to count you as colleagues dating back to:
* Sole Expression: Hip Hop for Trauma Resilience (Unity, Boost & TMU)
* QES/the internal qualitative evaluation system (Unity & Flourish)
* Breaking Pathways Research Project (Unity, Breaking Canada & Flourish)
* EPIC Leadership QAP/qualitative assessment pilot (EPIC & Flourish)
Can’t wait to celebrate your 20th next year!
Peace

MLSE Breaking Is an All Level Breaking/Breakdance drop in community program facilitated by Artist Educator Ethan Sharer and assisted by Avery Bgirl True. This year’s iteration of the program will cover all elements of breaking including toprock, drops, footwork, powermoves, freezes, musicality, and creative composition. Also, the program will be split between lesson and mentorship style teaching, allowing students to guide their own training goals with professional guidance and support in that process.
Participants will get an inside look at what it’s like to train in a crew environment, primarily practicing through cyphers and group activities. Additionally, they will have an opportunity to expand their sphere of influence through exposure to more niche and diverse forms of music.
