Work should be fair, safe and respectful.
The United Workers Union exists to make sure workers aren’t facing problems alone, across 45+ industries, in every state in Australia.
If you’ve ever felt like your boss holds all the power, you’re not imagining it. Together, workers change that.
With inflation rising and the cost of living continuing to bite, workers can’t afford to fall even further behind.

This is our why.
We’re here to make sure workers have protection, a voice at work and the power to fight for better pay, rights and conditions.
What’s your why? Why are you a union member?
Today, for National Corrections Day, United Workers Union recognises the correctional officers and prison staff working around the clock in prisons and correctional facilities across Australia.
It’s demanding work carried out under intense pressure, and our members continue to show up every day to keep facilities running and communities safe.
To all UWU corrections members: thank you.
United Workers Union is joining the push to lift the minimum and award wage claim from 5% to 6% through this year’s Annual Wage Review.
The claim has been increased after new Budget forecasts showed inflation is expected to rise even higher, putting more pressure on workers already struggling with the cost of living.
Nearly 3 million workers are directly affected by the Annual Wage Review, including many UWU members working in essential industries across Australia.
Workers shouldn’t go backwards while corporate profits continue to soar. A 6% increase would help workers keep up with rising costs and begin to recover wages lost over recent years.
Sign the petition now to support a 6% pay rise. Comment PAYRISE to get the petition sent to you.
United Workers Union Early Education Director Carolyn Smith said it plainly this week.
Educators have fought too hard, organised too strongly, and carried this sector through too much to accept cuts to pay and conditions.
Early educators deserves respect, and the people who show up every single day for children and families are not going backwards.
This fight is about the future of early education and every worker who makes it possible every single day.
When around 82 percent of a tax break goes to the top 10 per cent, it's time to rethink the system. The capital gains discount and negative gearing have dragged house prices up, pushing secure, affordable homes out of reach for many workers. This Budget, there's an opportunity to make real change, so homes are for people not profit.
What does allyship look like at work?
These were some of the questions members asked during our recent online workshop on allyship and inclusion at work.
From supporting co-workers facing exclusion, to responding to culturally insensitive comments in the workplace, the session focused on practical ways you can help create safer and more respectful workplaces for everyone.
The full recording of the workshop is now available for United Workers Union members to watch on our website.
This isn’t a few rogue employers. It’s a business model.
A major new report has revealed widespread exploitation of migrant workers across Australia, including sham contracting, cash payments, missing payslips and wages far below the legal minimum.
The report found:
• 2 in 3 migrant workers were underpaid
• International students alone are losing an estimated $61 million in wages every week
• 85% of ABN workers were paid less than what they would legally be owed as employees
• Many workers were denied payslips, super and basic workplace rights
No worker should be trapped in exploitation just because they need a job or a visa. Every worker deserves secure jobs, fair pay and the confidence to speak up without fear.
