Help us restore Croydon’s environments and design a sound system that honors the legacy of Samuel Coleridge-Taylor and the hidden history of Croydon.
TODAY
• 11:00 AM: Meet at South Norwood Recreation Ground for a 45-min community clean-up. Then walk to @merky_fc_hq
• 12:00 PM Lunch: Fuel up with the crew.
• 13:00 PM - 15:00 PM Creative Flow: Then we start the SCT Creative Flow & Sound System Design sessions facilitated by the legendary artist and designer @ryanhawaii
All ages are welcome. See you there!
This project is supported by Croydon Council, with funding from the National Heritage Lottery Fund.
“Samuel Coleridge-Taylor (1875–1912) was a trailblazing Anglo-African composer who shattered glass ceilings in the Edwardian era.
His greatest legacy, however, is the protection of every artist who followed him: because he had sold his most famous work for a pittance and received no royalties as it became a global sensation, his death sparked a national outcry over the exploitation of creators. This injustice directly led to the formation of the Performing Right Society (PRS) in 1914, ensuring that no future composer would be robbed of the fruits of their genius. He didn’t just write the music of an era; he fought for the rights of every musician to be paid fairly for their craft.”
We would like to thank Croydon Council, NHLF, Union Dance, R3CLAIM, Merky FC, The SCT Youth Centre and The Brit School for their contributions and support on this project too. @culturecroydon@heritagefunduk@culturecroydon@union.dance@art.aint.trash@thebritschool@timetopowerup_@ryanhawaii@merky_fc_hq
