Here are a few looks at some new raw edge dishes in various sizes, shapes, clay bodies, and glazes, fresh out of the kiln. I will have these available this weekend at back-to-back sales in both LA @intodo.us and the Bay at the Unhinged Holiday Sale (see below for details for both sales). These dishes are one of my new favorite things to make. I have been workshopping them for a little over a year. They are a great mental field trip for me away from the wheel. With these, I get the chance to handbuild and use different tools and techniques. They also give me the chance to experiment with different glazes and clay bodies to see which colorways feel right. To me, these feel like the perfect marriage of organic and elegant, rustic and modern - and you know that's my entire vibe. The raw unglazed edge of each dish meeting the smooth finish of the glazed surface is just 🤌🏾🤤 They are rustic chic in its truest manifestation. But don't worry, I won't forsake my firstborn - bowls. 😂 We're just adding to the eclectic @unhinged_pottery family. I usually make these in 5 or 6 different sizes, from teenie tiny salt pinch or ring dishes (choose your adventure) to small sauce dishes, to three different sizes of plates, including my favorite, the dinner plate (they stack and you can mix and match glaze and clay body to create your own set - they are the best, in my not-so-humble opinion). Every once in a while, I get reeeeeally wild and make a bowl or a large serving dish in this raw-edged style. 😅 Swing by this weekend to scoop one or two or ten of these, or DM me to purchase. I haven't posted a process clip in a minute, so here we go! A fail, a success, and a story about how I work. I took 2 months give/take off after Christmas. I was MIA from the studio from late December to mid/late-February. I tried to coax myself back to the wheel a few times along the way, but my brain and body just weren't having it. When I finally thought I was ready to return, I would go to the studio and be a complete nuisance. I'd sit for hours visiting with my friends and yapping while everyone else created - anything but creating something myself. This is the 2nd year in a row this has happened. I swore I wouldn't repeat 2025's pattern in 2026. But instead, I once again burnt *all the way* out. I'm talking crispy, overdone. After back-to-back-to-back holiday sales, I went into hibernation. I lost count of how many people messaged me asking where I was, whether I was okay, and when I was coming back. I'd say "soon," or "next week," fully believing it to be true. But it wasn't. A week turned into two, then three, then a month, then two. I did stuff around the house I had been neglecting. I binged TV shows (some of them truly terrible - I am offended by the things Netflix thinks I will like). I cooked. I went on vacation. Anything but the studio. Last year I felt guilty about it. I made myself feel really terrible about taking time off. This year, I didn't. And if I'm being honest, it's probably going to happen again next year too. And I'm fine with that. I know self-help gurus and a therapist or two would likely say that's not healthy. Burning out. But I think it's bound to happen, at least for me. I don't have an off switch, until I do. It's just me - it's my process. When it's game time, it's game time. And when it's not, it's not. I am glad I am finally getting to a place where I can accept that about myself instead of trying to force myself to fit someone else's mold. What works for you works for you.
