🌐 On UN Day, we reflect on 80 years of global cooperation, and look ahead to the leadership our future demands.
Following Senator Penny Wong’s powerful address at UN80: Shaping our future together in Sydney this week, our Executive Director Kate Dundas reflected on the UN’s legacy and its evolving role in a time of global crises.
Senator Wong spoke of amplified middle-power diplomacy — a powerful idea that challenges traditional notions of influence. Today, power belongs not only to great nations but also to those who can convene, collaborate, and build trust. That includes governments, but also businesses, investors, and communities.
The private sector has a vital role to play.
At the UN Global Compact Network Australia, we help bridge principle and profit, and support Australian businesses to lead with purpose, integrity and impact.

📆 Official launch: Sustainability Reporting Community of Practice (SRCoP)
Last week, we're proud to officially launch the Sustainability Reporting Community of Practice (SRCoP) at the iconic ASX Exchange Square, marked by a Ring the Bell ceremony with Simon Stiell, Executive Secretary of the UN Climate Change (UNFCCC) during his official visit to Australia.
Developed by the UN Global Compact Network Australia in partnership with the ASX and Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand, the SRCoP is designed to help professionals and business leaders across various functions navigate the evolving sustainability reporting landscape.
With mandatory climate reporting regulations coming into effect around the world, the SRCoP is a timely initiative that empowers the private sector to lead with integrity, transparency and impact. It will contribute directly to Australia’s progress on climate action and decarbonisation efforts, especially as the country prepares to submit its upcoming national climate plan (NDC) in September.
The launch event convened senior representatives from across Group 1, 2 and 3 reporters, highlighting the strong cross-sectoral commitment to advance corporate sustainability and responsible business practices.
25 years ago, the United Nations Global Compact was born from a simple but radical idea: that business could be a force for good.
Today, that idea has become a global movement — uniting over 20,000 companies in more than 160 countries around a shared commitment to human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption, adhering to the Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact.
Together, we’ve proven that sustainability is not just good for the world — it’s good for business.
