55 Years of Mahajak at ASA Expo 2026
At ASA Expo 2026, the unformat team had the exclusive opportunity to interview Mahajak and KOLAB to dive deep into the philosophy and technical wizardry behind this project. To celebrate Mahajak’s 55th Anniversary, they didn’t just display high-end speakers; they partnered with KOLAB to engineer one of the most complex “Sonic Ecosystems” the Pro-AV industry has ever seen.
The Game Changer: Audience as Composer
The core concept is a shift in perspective—transforming the audience into a Composer through 55 custom-engineered switches:
- 55 Switches, 55 Actions: Each switch represents a year of Mahajak’s journey. When pressed, it doesn’t just “play” a sound; it composes a new sonic element in a split second.
- The Engine Behind the Magic: The entire system is powered by MaxMSP, utilizing OSC Protocol for 100% real-time data transmission. There are no pre-records and no fixed loops.
- 3D Sound Experience: Audio is processed through Spat Revolution, positioning every sound within a 3D space. The audio moves around you dynamically, reacting to the rhythm of your touch.
When Hardware Meets Architecture
This is the frontier of new solutions. By clashing Mahajak’s world-class high-end gear with KOLAB’s architectural design, they’ve achieved:
- Instant Sync & Response: Every touch triggers audio, lighting, and visuals simultaneously with near-zero latency.
- Live Signal Chain: Every channel is independent and processed live—much like playing a giant Modular Synthesizer in the form of an interactive installation.

ASA Expo 2026 —
This year, the Unformat team visited the ASA Expo 2026. It’s considered one of the largest architecture expos in Thailand, bringing together materials, technologies, construction systems, and real-world solutions used across the industry.
This year’s theme, “Innovation for Thai Architecture,” was clearly reflected across the booths, with each exhibitor presenting their ideas and innovations at full scale.
As we spent time exploring the expo, one thing stood out the most: the way architecture is approached today is evolving to another level. System, material, and technology are no longer treated separately —they’re increasingly designed to work together in more integrated ways. At the same time, the connection with users is being explored more deeply, with people becoming part of the overall experience.
Throughout the event, we met architects, designers, fabricators, and teams behind emerging systems showcased at the expo. It gave us the chance to exchange perspectives and gain a lot of new insights.
We came back with plenty of ideas —from innovations and techniques to new workflows worth exploring.
We’ll be breaking them down and sharing more in detail soon —what we discovered, and what’s next.

Hybrid Shooting Production Solution
Behind the scenes of UNMAGZ vol.002, we chose a hybrid workflow to handle shooting 4 sets / 4 locations within a single day.
So what is a hybrid workflow?
It’s a way of working that combines multiple approaches—both physical shoots and virtual production—selecting what fits best for each shot. This allows the process to move faster, stay flexible, and manage time more efficiently.
This solution helped us overcome time limitations
and made it possible to execute multiple locations in one day with efficiency.

Position: Assistant Production Designer & System Manager
Job Description:
• Create SketchUp (SKP) drawings, layouts, and presentations for team and client communication
• Plan and manage system integration across Visual, Lighting, Sound, and Media systems
• Coordinate with operators and technicians to ensure smooth installation and show operation
• Supervise on-site installation and maintain production quality according to design standards
• Support stage operation (Visual, Lighting, Sound) during setup and show days
• Troubleshoot technical and production issues on-site
• Applicants with experience in audio-visual systems and technology workflows will receive special consideration
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree or higher
• Experience in Production Design / Film Production / Events / Concerts / Exhibitions is a plus
• Strong SketchUp (SKP) skills required
(AutoCAD / Unreal / other 3D software is a plus)
• Proficiency in Adobe programs
• Basic understanding of visual systems, lighting, sound, and media technology
• Strong coordination skills and ability to work as part of a team
• Interest in emerging technologies such as Real-time workflows, Interactive media, AI, XR
• Able to work flexible hours and travel upcountry when required
• Available to start immediately

Unformat Hangar No.04 space and function — Another studio space of Unformat Studio, designed as an open floor plan space with a strong structural character and distinctive architectural styling.
The space can be configured to support a wide range of formats, including film production, live performances, exhibitions, brand activations, events, and music-based experiences.
Hangar No.04 was developed as a multimedia, hybrid, and virtual studio space, created to support emerging workflows that connect production, events, and real-time environments within a single integrated setting.
The studio is equipped with supporting infrastructure, including an LED volume (W10 × H3.5 m), a PAR lighting system (LED PAR 18×5-in-1 fixtures — 19 units), and a flexible space configuration, enabling the space to adapt to various production and event environments.
Hangar No.04 serves as another platform for exploring new creative formats within a hybrid production environment.
