Forests are disappearing fast. In 2024 alone, 6.7 million hectares of tropical primary forest were lost. That’s 18 football fields every minute. Healthy forests sustain livelihoods, food systems and climate stability. #ForestDay 🌳

Equal treatment before the law is a fundamental human right. Yet women 🌍 hold just 64% of the legal rights men have, leaving them unprotected. No justice #ForAllWomenAndGirls means no justice at all. #IWD2026

Imagine living without light. Over 685 million people in the world live without access to electricity. Over 2 billion don't have clean cooking fuels, relying on polluting alternatives that affect health, livelihoods and resilience. Together with our partners, UNDP is working to provide access to clean energy and reliable power supply ensuring businesses, schools and hospitals can operate reliably. By using clean energy, we can reduce poverty, improve health, and protect the environment. #DayofLight

Every meal we eat is connected to forests. From coffee & chocolate to rice & spices, forests nurture our food. But climate change and deforestation is putting this at risk. Protecting our forests is protecting our future! #UNFF21

Plants play a vital role in our planet. Here are 5 ways plants help us and the environment: They are the primary source of oxygen on our planet, helping keep the air we breathe clean and healthy. Eating a plant-based diet has been linked to numerous health benefits, including lower rates of chronic disease. Trees absorb carbon dioxide, which helps to mitigate climate change by reducing the amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. Plants help to filter and purify water by absorbing pollutants and chemicals from the soil and water. Plants provide habitats for a diverse range of animal species, helping to support biodiversity and maintain healthy ecosystems. Protecting plants can help end hunger, reduce poverty, protect biodiversity and the environment, and boost economic development. This #PlantHealthDay, let's appreciate and protect the plants around us! 🌿🌳

Tackling the world’s biggest challenges requires strong partnerships. That is why the partnership between the European Commission and UNDP is so vital. For more than two decades, we have been working together in nearly 140 countries to turn global ambitions into local realities. From helping communities rebuild and recover when crises strike to pioneering digital public goods to tackle misinformation and disinformation, we are proving that when we combine our strengths, we can build a fairer, greener, and more sustainable future for everyone. This #EuropeDay, our partnership is stronger together.

“Before, there was no water. We had to walk very far, 60 to 90 minutes, just to bring water. We had to go for water three or four times a day. I had pain in my back and feet. Now I do not have to go far because the water is here.” - recalls Eid Bibi, from southeastern Afghanistan. Through joint efforts with the community, @undpafghanistan and partners have improved access to safe water, reducing risks and easing daily burdens for families.
