Though we have crafted many wines since I started the winery the one constant has been the wine from this exceptional vineyardโit remains the most important (or โflagship,โ in marketing speak) wine we produce. In many ways, the Bedrock Vineyard Heritage Wine most closely mirrors the evolution of the winery: it has grown from the initial six barrels made in 2007; its style has shifted subtly over time from an eager shout to a more assured confidence; and the vineyard itself has transitioned from conventional farming to become the only ancient-vine site in California that is Regenerative Organic Certified. It is, perhaps, the wine that most fully reflects our evolution, our winemaking aesthetic, and our values. Evangelho harvest starts tomorrow! How did we decide that? Please see video above. We do an enormous amount of work to ensure we are dialed in on flavor, sugar and acid. Pick too early- thin, stringent wine. Pick too late- excessively alcoholic, overly mushy fruit flavor. Get it right- you capture the best of the vineyard character and put it in a bottle. The most critical part of this process is fruit sampling- something we do in every block multiple times in the weeks leading up to picking.
