We are wrapping up Construction Safety Week (CSW) with one last spotlight on Citadel Magday, UCCo Safety Administrator. Citadel brings 10+ years of construction industry experience and the belief that every safety decision carries real weight for her coworkers, their families, and her own loved ones.
To close out CSW, Citadel reminds us that safety is a shared responsibility. To her, that means speaking up without hesitation, stopping work when something doesn't feel right, and never taking shortcuts, because the plan exists for a reason.
Remember, "If something doesn't feel right or a hazard isn't controlled, never stay silent. Pausing work and having a conversation is always worth it."

Meet Kenneth Villarete, UCCo Safety and Training Manager with over 18 years of experience in the construction industry. For Kenneth, "Respect" for safety means a shared system built on leadership setting the tone, daily communication, and proactively addressing challenges before they become incidents.
He'll be the first to tell you: work stops when a hazard is identified. No exceptions. No one keeps moving just to stay on schedule. The crew must engage, communicate openly, and apply the hierarchy of controls to reduce risk. That's not a policy, that's a standard.
We are grateful to have Kenneth on the UCCo team. His commitment to building a true safety culture, not just compliance, makes every crew, every site, and every action stronger. 💪

Today marks the National Stand Down to Prevent Falls. Falls remain one of the leading causes of serious injuries and fatalities in our industry. Days and weeks like these remind us that safety is about the people, and that every decision we make has the power to prevent future falls and save lives.

Next up in our Construction Safety Week (CSW) Spotlight Series is Juan Ibarra, Field Safety Representative! Juan is a 25-year construction industry veteran who believes that keeping people safe is everyone's responsibility, not just supervisors.
Day Two of CSW focuses on responding safely on the job. For Juan and his crews, that means following procedures, staying alert, using proper PPE, and doing more than your part to keep everyone safe, no matter what.
Juan says it best, "No job is worth getting hurt. Take the time to follow safety steps, speak up about hazards, and use the right protective equipment. Going home safe matters more than getting the task done fast."
