Right now, we have 18 puppies and a whopping 123 kittens either in our care or heading our way. That is a lot of tiny, hungry bellies to feed! 🐾🍼
To keep these little ones growing healthy and strong, we are running through food faster than we can unpack it. We are in desperate need of both puppy and kitten wet and dry food. The good news? Our babies aren’t picky eaters! We will happily accept any brand, size, or variety of puppy and kitten food. Every single can and bag makes a massive difference.

🩺🐶🐱 What does it actually look like to show up differently?
Many of the animals we take in come from the south, including rural Tennessee, where we’ll be heading for this trip. They are transported to us by our shelter partners before going into foster homes and adoption here in Wisconsin. ❤️
Instead of focusing only on moving animals through the system, we’re bringing our mobile clinic directly into the community with a team that includes Dr. Lenore, Dr. Heather, three veterinary technicians, and Jorge, our trainer, who will be there to provide positive-based dog training tips and advice.
The goal is to reach communities where vet care hasn’t been widely accessible, so there are fewer unwanted litters and animals entering shelters to begin with.
We’ll be providing spay and neuter services for dogs and cats (with a goal of 40–50 surgeries each day), along with vaccines, food and supplies, collars and ID tags, and training support. 🐾
Thanks to Greater Good, we’re partnering with Boehringer Ingelheim, who will supply vaccines for the trip, and Chewy who will meet us with a truck filled with donated food and supplies to distribute directly to community members. We also want to thank Datamars for donating microchips so that we can make sure animals can be reunited with their families if they get lost.
All of it will be offered at no cost to the community, because removing barriers is the whole point.
We’ll also be working alongside our partners in the area, listening and learning as we go, to better understand what ongoing support could look like.
This trip can’t happen without the resources to get our team and clinic there, run surgeries, and provide care within the community.

✨ SNEAK PEEK: THE WAIT IS ALMOST OVER ✨
Brooklyn 🐾 arrived at the shelter as a tiny, hopeful puppy. Since then, she has spent over a year watching the world go by from behind a kennel door. She even watched her brother get "claimed" a few months ago and officially become an Underdog... and while we were thrilled for him, our hearts broke just a little for her.
No puppy should grow up in a shelter, but Brooklyn has handled it with nothing but grace.

Age: 1 Year (The perfect "post-puppy" age!)
Weight: 35–40 lbs (Medium-sized bestie)
Personality: Awesome!

Brooklyn is a sweet, gentle soul who just needs a little bit of "your time" to show you her true colors. Once she feels safe, you’ll get to see her signature move: the tippy-tappy toes and happy spins! It is quite literally the cutest thing you’ll ever see.

A Canine Bestie: Brooklyn adores other dogs. She is much more confident when she has a four-legged friend to show her the ropes.
Sunshine & Toys: She’s a pro at the doggy door and loves nothing more than a lazy afternoon sunbathing or a good play session with her favorite toys.

🚐🐾 What happens before a pet ever needs rescue?
Many of you know that we regularly take in animals from the south, one of these locations being rural Tennessee.
Those dogs and cats are transported up to us by our shelter partners, and from there they go into foster homes and eventually adoption here in Wisconsin. ❤️
Adoption is at the heart of what we do, and it’s something we’re really proud to be part of.
At the same time, over the past couple of years, we’ve brought in 961 animals from that region, and the need has not slowed down.
So we’ve been asking ourselves a different question.
What would it look like to show up earlier in the process, before those animals ever need rescue?
Because what we continue to see is that this isn’t about people not caring. It’s about access.
In many of the communities we work with, spay and neuter simply isn’t within reach. Even a $100- 200 surgery isn’t always feasible (and prices are almost always considerably higher than that), and there aren’t enough high-volume clinics available to meet the need.
So this trip is focused on expanding access to that care directly within the community, before more litters ever happen.

France is a true superhero around Underdog, not only keeping pets cozy and comfortable in the clinic, but also wearing many hats and jumping into different roles depending on where she’s needed!

I’m not able to foster, so I love that I’m able to have a small part in helping them find homes, especially when they continue to come in for vet care.
