This week we’re at @supermarketart in Stockholm! After giving up our Cape Town space at the start of the year we’ve been thinking about what curation looks like without an exhibition space. For Supermarket we invited 5 practitioners to materialize space-less exhibitions with us through paper-based projects. Most curators have pipedream projects in notebooks and casual conversations that don’t always get realised in material spaces. These paper projects (in the form of publications) are made up of research, posters, floor plans, exhibition texts, artist lists, dialogues, email exchanges, bios, references, colour schemes and designs - all the myriad building materials that make up an exhibition before it occupies a space. Belated check-in for the new year 👋 We have moved out of 79 Roeland (and some new people have moved in 📦). We had a good rest and now we are reconfiguring/ reimagining what projects look like without a permanent space. 💭 At the moment we are gearing up for Supermarket Independent Artfair (@supermarketart ) in Stockholm this April. Under Projects is getting on an aeroplane! ✈️ We’ll be sharing more details about the project soon. 👀 We’ve got some great curators on board. We’ll introduce them next month. Under & Out opens this Friday at Under Projects ✨. It’ll be our last show at 79 Roeland Street as we give up the lease and leave our permanent space. Next year we will be back with mobile/ roaming projects, but first we’ll be taking a break. With that in mind, it seemed funny and fitting that the last show expressed one of our initial reasons for starting a project space: To show our work 👀. 𝟕𝟗 𝐑𝐨𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐭 𝟏𝟓 𝐃𝐞𝐜𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟑 𝟏𝟖:𝟎𝟎 - 𝟐𝟎:𝟎𝟎 𝟏𝟔 𝐃𝐞𝐜𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟑 𝟏𝟏:𝟎𝟎 - 𝟏𝟑:𝟎𝟎 Come have a drink and be regaled with stories of the shows we did and didn’t do 🗯️ Say goodbye to the little piece of parking lot that has been a site for so many projects this past year.

New project - GINQI GONQO Under Projects welcomes Xhanti Zwelendaba and Mzonke Maloney to take over the space until some point. GINQI GONQO will observe the two of them alternating between ideas in a diverse range of mediums from video, sound and music, installation, painting, conversation and more. The space will be occupied from today as the project begins. Anyone is welcome to visit, participate and observe. More info about events and dates will come as the project takes form. Xhanti Zwelendaba is a visual artist working in a range of mediums including sculpture, print making, installation, performance and video art.
