Inspiring the next generation of engineers and medical device innovators 💪 Last week, we hosted IEM's Annual Inspire Conference with 27 Minnesota high schools, exploring this year's theme "Wearable Devices" through a wide variety of health conditions/diseases including hearing loss, diabetes, and surgical recovery. Thank you to all 210+ students and teachers who attended the conference!
We are so thankful for all our wonderful collaborators this year! @abbottglobal , @starkeyhearing , @medtronic , and @solventumhealth hosted interactive breakout sessions, showcasing the latest medtech to the students. Dr. Carlye Lauff from @umndesign led this year's the Invention Session, showing students the product development and design process. Together, we created an amazing atmosphere filled with high energy and excitement for the students to explore the wide world of medical devices✨

In April this year, Dr. Javier Navarro Rueda joined the @umnmedschool as a new Assistant Professor in the @visibleheartlab (VHL)! Dr. Navarro Rueda's research focuses on cardiovascular biomedical devices, biomaterials, and using 3D technologies to improve surgical planning and medical education.
Dr. Navarro Rueda first met VHL and VHL Director Dr. Paul Iaizzo while working on with PhD. "I first learned about the VHL while doing my PhD on bioreactors. Then a few years later, I was setting up a clinical 3D printing center at Fundación Cardioinfantil, the pediatric cardiovascular hospital back in Colombia, my home country. We contacted many 3D printing centers around the world, including the VHL. I reached out to Paul and they flew us out to Minnesota," says Dr. Navarro Rueda. "We spent a couple of weeks here with the Lab learning a lot and establishing a collaboration with VHL and @stratasys . Thanks to that support, the Center has been running for about 5 years now and is part of the largest cardiovascular pediatric hospital in Colombia, pushing a lot of innovative ideas and being a reference center for Latin America."
