Bachelor of Science in Information Technology students Lance Josh Corpuz, Mathew Angelo Balanlay, Justin Mark Luzano, and John Richie Campo paid a courtesy visit to University President Elyxzur Ramos, accompanied by College of Computing and Information Sciences Dean Joel Mangaba. Representing UMak as iTeam, the group was hailed as the Track B winners with their winning project, Kita-Kita, a real-time communication app and visual translator designed for the deaf and hard-of-hearing community. It enables seamless interaction among deaf and hearing individuals. InnOlympics 2026 is a two-day hackathon focused on three core tracks that challenge participants to develop functional prototypes that solve real-world constraints and provide system-improving solutions accessible to every community. The University of Makati commends Bachelor of Elementary Education student Ram Frederich De Gracia for being one of the Silver Medalists at the 3rd National Teacher Education Quiz Bee, under the guidance of coach, Assoc. Prof. Jose Ronilo Dacara With 150 participating schools, De Gracia showcased his knowledge and mastery of teacher education in the prestigious and multi-level competition for the teaching profession. Congratulations to the UMak Men’s Volleyball Team and Coach Jefferson Aragon for finishing 1st runner-up in the National Athletic Association of Schools, Colleges, and Universities Season 23. [Advisory 2026-012] The University Management Committee advises the UMak community to take extra care of their health and well-being in light of the reported poor air quality affecting several areas in Metro Manila due to the recent Navotas landfill fire. While conditions may vary across locations, some areas are already experiencing air quality levels that are considered unhealthy to very unhealthy. With this, all are encouraged to wear face masks when outdoors, especially when traveling to and from the university or staying in open spaces for extended periods. If possible, please also: - Limit unnecessary outdoor exposure� - Stay hydrated - Seek immediate attention if you experience discomfort such as coughing, difficulty breathing, or eye irritation Your safety is our top priority.

The 25th Session of the United Nations Committee of Experts on Public Administration (CEPA) is underway at the UN Headquarters in New York, with the University of Makati represented by its Vice President for Academic Affairs, Prof. Ederson Tapia, and the Dean of the College of Governance and Public Policy, Assoc. Prof. Sonia Pimentel. In the panel session on measuring effective governance for sustainable development, Professor Tapia was the only Filipino invited to deliver an intervention, joining a small group of voices asked to reflect on one of the central questions confronting public institutions today. In response to the dangerous heat index levels reported by PAGASA, the national energy emergency, the City Government of Makati's energy conservation initiatives, and CHED's advisory on the implementation of flexible learning modality during the national emergency, the University of Makati will temporarily implement a reduced face-to-face classes by dedicating a one (1) day full online synchronous (real time) classes. To ensure fairness and balance across all courses, the designated online day will follow a weekly rotation: • April 20 (Monday) • April 28 (Tuesday) • May 6 (Wednesday) • May 14 (Thursday) • May 22 (Friday) Hence, the other days of the week not included on the said dates for full online will follow the regular face-to-face schedule of classes. The rotation will continue in this sequence until further notice. Meanwhile, transactions at UMak will continue to be conducted onsite from Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, except holidays and government-declared work suspensions. Reminding all Herons to take the necessary precautions against the heat and to support the ongoing energy conservation efforts of the City.
