Here is my participation in the @shotdeck #recreations2025 contest. I attempted to replicate a shot from the series "The Leftovers" (Season 2 - Episode 10). I tried to match the great cinematography of Michael Grady as best as possible. 1. Original shot on top, recreation at the bottom. 2. Video of the whole setup. You can see the reference shot I used from the leftover on my laptop side-by-side with the live feed of the Sony A7 III on the TV screen. 3. Lighting Diagram. 4. Comparison of the Rec.709 shot before and after (light) grading. I directly shot in rec.709 to get most of the look in camera, as I didn't want to rely on s-log with heavy grading. 5. Close-up photo of the lens in front of which I put small pieces of black cinefoil on top and bottom to recreate the semi-circular bokeh of "The Leftovers" original shot. Without those pieces, the bokeh was completely round, which didn't fit the look from the show. 6. Close-up photo of the small holes I poked in the black cinefoil. I used this trick to recreate the red bokeh background of the original shot. 7. Photo of the whole setup from the key light. 8. Photo of the hair light and the red backlight. 9.
