‘MY SKYSCRAPER’ represents 40 years or so of works, re-works and works-forever-in-progress of one Steven Hall, aka Nirosta Steel — son of Scotland; step-son of the United States of America; adopted Daddy of Taiwan; Five-Star General in the Buddhist Army; legendary horndog stickman (we have pics!); friend, neighbor, collaborator and co-conspirator of Arthur Russell; and one of the most jawdroppingly sincere songwriting voices you’ll hear in this wretched modern era. Sure, that’s a metric fuck-ton of descriptors for a single person. But it’s sorta impossible to capture the full scope of this human being named Steven Hall. A rare and specific constellation of ideas and motifs: queer love songs — night life, giddy desire and odes to lovers of yesterday. There’s the anti-vibrato ethos he shared with Russell always present in the vocal stretches and horn performances. Sexy AF window-buffet disco. Cloudfolk earlobe-lick confessionals. Post-rave sauna-wave. An absolutely maniacal organizational process that had us triple-checking our metadata. No, we’ve never met a dada quite like Hall. A True Scotch-American wildass. ‘Laugh Now,’ a new series of big ass paintings by @eodeines (pronounced like DIE-NESS) on exhibition with works from his ULY co-conspirator @how_jlw , the good Reverend H.L. Hayes and and fellow wild boi reverend Howard Finster opens in just 3 weeks at Chicago’s @kiosk.chi and runs till June 14. The month of programming includes a screening of @ceceliacondit ’s Toejazz cinema classic ‘Possibly In Michigan’ and the opening party on May 2 should have a set from one of our heroes @rp_boo_official . And EOD’s new book ‘Can of Whoopass’ by @enterthenightgallery press will be sold at the gallery. Come and see.

Looking at ghosts and empties of buffgold yellowbelly ice cold rocky river waters piled goodness gracious god almighty high like you wouldn’t believe. 40,000 cans of whoopass metabolized through sloppy impulsive behaviors. Scribbles, scrapes and splatterings of the hand and of the heart — and a caravan of overturned applecarts stretching all the way back to Bum Fuck Egypt. Where the Heartland flatlines you gotta double the heartbeats of the heart of the average man. Comedy equals tragedy at twice the speed you see. Yes, incredible comic timing like 8-hours of AA crudeoil coffee in the west side discount tire shop waiting room. Like attending a funeral on your birthday and then dipping to catch the last song of a Steely Dan gig. Like a 3AM wheels-up tepid coffee slog in a midsized airport. Like losing touch with dear friends again and again for a decade stretches then hitting them with a text of a sketch of a boiling angel at some wretched hour. For I too am 3 AM. You gotta learn to love the empty feeling when the night loops become the autistic predawn morning void. My life’s so common it disappears. Only love, a sense of humor and a real good mantra can save your little ass now. The Om is in the margins.
