We’re honored to have @ultraq headlining Community Service Fest. Their headlining performance on the main stage is their final performance before they take a break from live shows, so don’t miss your chance to see them. Without trying to speak hyperbolically, Ultra Q is a true gleaming light coming out of the East Bay Area. In a region that in 2025 can sometimes get a tough wrap musically, this 4 piece is continuing a legacy of East Bay Area rock music in a time frame where it feels most needed. Originally meeting in high school, the trio of Jakob Armstrong, Enzo Malaspina, and Chris Malaspina, spent their childhood playing music and growing up together, performing their first shows at legendary Bay Area venues like 924Gilman Street and Bottom of the Hill. When they met bassist Kevin Judd in high school they started a project called Mt. Eddy, and went on to play some absolutely legendary shows throughout their years of activity. Around 2019 that project turned into what we now know as Ultra Q, the genre bending and forever-expanding quartet behind albums like Empty Eddy & My Guardian Angel. In our new episode of Music Matters we sit down with Ultra Q, 2 weeks ahead of their headlining performance at our very own Community Service Fest to chat about why this show is their last for a long time, their last two years of touring, things that have inspired them on the road, and much much more. Ultra Q is opening for Superdrag at the Troubadour on June 20th.
They are one of my favorite bands of all time and I can’t believe I get to play with them. I already had bought tickets to this show as soon as it announced. It’s hard to really express how much it means to me… definitely a peak moment in my journey of playing music.
