The concept integrates sustainability with the imaginative narrative of Tom’s Midnight Garden, a story that explores time travel and the discovery of a hidden garden at night. The novel reflects themes of memory, tranquility, and transformation — all of which are reinterpreted through designs that utilize leftover denim as the primary material, combined with deadstock fabrics.
Creative techniques such as patchwork, cyanotype dyeing, smocking, and fabric painting are employed to enhance the artistic and environmental value of these discarded materials. The project follows an upcycling process and emphasizes resource efficiency throughout the design development.
Inspired by the story’s magical garden, the designs feature layered silhouettes, representations of temporal dimensions, and patterns drawn from nature — including flowers, leaves, fountains, and the flowing curves of classical gardens. These elements are fused with garment structures influenced by Victorian and 1950s fashion, which correspond to the key time periods in the novel.
