This is a major opportunity for emerging directors worldwide to showcase their work to leading production companies, agencies and brands working in advertising. Shiny is one of the world’s leading platforms for new directors entering the commercials industry. Coming together and winning an award as Boy Dykes at the UKMVA’s for Best UK Grime Hip Hop Rap with Kae Tempest for Statue in the Square is a top of the chart profoundly moving experience. Couldn’t have happened without the insane talent that is Kae, hugely handsome and entirely humble. Trusting us beyond. Music videos play a crucial role in the contemporary music landscape, serving as a powerful medium for artistic expression and cultural commentary. They enhance the storytelling aspect of songs, allowing artists to visually convey emotions and themes that resonate. Music and the films we make that go with what we hear and feel, is often a life saving and certainly a life changing experience. In the times when we feel so alone, it has the power to bring everyone together in solidarity. They enhance the emotional connection, often translating complex themes into visual narratives, reflecting and challenging societal norms. This has been a collective experience of community, we make and nourish, interaction by interaction, one vulnerable moment at a time, a meeting of the people who come to play a cherished role in our lives, to becoming an immense gathering of people who play these cherished roles in our lives. That the UK MVA community saw and felt this music video as much as we did, that inspite of the oppressive systems in place increasingly making it unsafe for the existence of the marginalized, there are beacons of light. Being seen and acknowledged in this space and celebrated together, is one big one, nothing is ever done in isolation and this year, we are so proud of the hard work it’s taken to keep showing up for each other, it sends an interconnected sense of cultural recognition for collective change. Diane Martel was a powerhouse, a music video director, with an instinct for lensing sharp thinking creative with a softness and compassion that was unrivalled. Her wit, meticulousness and clarity shone through in her groundbreaking art.  Diane, was also a grateful director, she never forgot the hustle it takes, how hard it can be to break into the industry, she passed this on by mentoring many newcomers in every creative field she excelled in. For myself, it was a privilege and rare to make such a strong friendship over the last decade, we bonded hard, Diane, my icon, our icon who had so many who loved her, including the phenomenal array of Artists who kept returning to work with her across her career. Lee: I first became aware of Diane through her groundbreaking work in the 90s for a succession of hip hop artists from her native New York: Onyx, Method Man, ODB, Gang Starr and more. Videos that helped to define hiphop culture at the time. And I was obsessed. And then Diane seamlessly moved into pop & R&B and made some of the most iconic videos of the Noughties and beyond for the likes of Mariah Carey, Christina Aguilera, Alicia Keys, Ciara, Justin Timberlake, and Miley Cyrus.  Juliette: Diane who for those of us, both friends and fans alike, are all devastated by your sudden passing are so delighted that the UKMVAs are honouring you tonight, I wish you were here, Thank you UKMVA’s,  Diane Martel and the legacy she has left speaks volumes, for this to go on record to recognise her legendary contributions, sadly not enough in her lifetime, means the world.  🕊️🖤🕊️ The rest of our words below: Thank you @ukmva

At the climax of the UK Music Video Awsrds 2025 last night, Gabriel Moses came on stage to accept the Best Director award for his body of work in past year, including videos for Travis Scott and Clipse - accompanied by his very proud mum, Grace. It was special moment at the end of a memorable evening. A two hour thrill ride - expertly helmed by host @msanamatronic - through more than 40 awards. And by the end, a video that had been shelved for two years - A$AP Rocky’s Tailor Swif - had won 5 awards including Video Of The Year. And two of Jordan Hemingway’s videos for FKA twigs had also won four, including three for Eusexua. Object & Animal had won the @kodak - sponsored Best Production Company prize, Luna Carmoon had won Best New Director - and Chris Murdoch had won Best Producer. Damian Kulash of OK Go accepted The Icon Award with the message ‘long live music videos’ and the UKMVAs bestowed its first Legend Award to honour the memory of the late Diane Martel, accepted by Juliette Larthe and Lee Fairweather.
