“Holy shit, what a trip! There was no better way to celebrate turning 40 than by going to The Punk Rock Museum in Las Vegas with my brother and best friend. And what made it even better was having a guided tour by my favorite singer Spike Slawson from Me First and the Gimme Gimmes, who also played a ukulele set afterwards; oh, and having Fat Mike continually interrupt the tour. We spent nearly 8 hours there (I know) and there wasn’t a wasted moment. The exhibits were amazing with so many great photos and artifacts; I thought it was going to be half-assed, but they really pulled out all the stops. I also got to jam on Pat Smear’s guitar from the Germs (and Joey Cape’s guitar from the Gimmes) which was pretty rad as hell. I even went back the next day to get a permanent sovereign at their tattoo shop.
The whole trip was absolutely amazing, and I’m sure I’ll post more photos from it, but the day at the museum was the highlight. I’ll definitely be talking about this for a long, long time.
