At 10:00 a.m., students gather in front of the University of King's College library steps in solidarity for the King's FYP Fellows.
"Show me what community looks like, this is what community looks like" students and community chant together.
The FYP fellows demand fair and competitive compensation, a capsize on tutorial sizes, and job security with renewable contracts.
The members of the UKCTA are among the lowest paid full-time university instructors in all of Atlantic Canada.
First-year fellows are the lowest paid, coming up to 46% beneath the median, at $51,066 a year. UKCTA members demand salary raises to bring them closer to the median.
More information can be found on the labours relations page on the University of King's College website at ukings.ca.

Today is the day! We are en route to the bargaining table and we are cautiously optimistic that we will be able to reach a mutually beneficial collective agreement. Thank you to @ksunion and @kingsstudents4strike for organizing the rally in our support today at 10am in the quad! Join them if you can ✊ Stay tuned!
Small tutorial sizes are what makes the Foundation Year Program special! One more day until we return to the bargaining table! #kings #Halifax #university #labor #union
King’s community, now is your time to stand up for faculty! April 7th the UKCTA will return to their final conciliation meeting. The Fellows’ have given their notice to strike if negotiations are unsuccessful.
How to support:
- Sign the petition expressing support of the UKCTA’s demands!
- Get parents, alumni and other faculty involved by contacting administration!
- Rally in the Quad at 10am on Tuesday April 7th!
*Correction: UKCTA contains 8 Fellows, not 6
We remain optimistic that we will be able to reach an agreement with the administration at the bargaining table on Tuesday. But if we do not, we are officially announcing our intent to strike. #strike #Halifax #kings #labor #union

I have been at King’s for almost 2 years, and I have 1 more year left in my contract as a Faculty Fellow.
My favourite thing about my job is how passionate and excited the students are about the texts and ideas we explore together. I was a FYP student myself, and it is such an honour to be back at King’s teaching in the same program (and in some of the upper year classes) that had such a profound impact on my own studies and even on my research today!
One of my proudest academic achievements during my time as a Fellow has been the opportunity to present my research on women artists and feminist art history at two international conferences; this photo was taken in Bristol last summer at the symposium “Deviant Women in the Visual Arts”!
