Sustainaplooza 2026💚 at UIUC was an incredible experience. Some of our favorite moments from the event are captured here.🤩
Thank you to everyone who stopped by our table, shared ideas, and took the time to connect with us. It was inspiring to see so much passion for sustainability and landscape architecture all in one place. We’re grateful to be part of such a great community.🌏🌱
We got our hands dirty last week at our ASLA seed bombing workshop 🌱
It was amazing to see everyone come together to craft native seed bombs, supporting pollinators, restoring habitats, and adding a little more green to our campus, one toss at a time! ☀️
Thanks to everyone who came out and made it such a fun, meaningful experience!🦋
Last week’s terrarium workshop was everything we hoped for and more 🌿✨
So grateful to everyone who came out, got their hands a little dirty, and made the whole experience so fun and memorable. The creativity, the laughs, and the good vibes made it truly special.
Thank you for being part of it 💚
This past week, UIUC Landscape Architecture students had the opportunity to attend LABash Conference 2026. An incredible experience to connect with peers from across the country and explore the creativity shaping the future of landscape architecture.
From insightful sessions to inspiring keynote talks, each moment was engaging, thought provoking, and enriching. We’re especially grateful to be part of such a passionate and supportive community of designers.
One of the highlights was the sketching session with @landscapenerd , which many of us thoroughly enjoyed. We were also inspired by Julia Watson’s talk on how water shapes our world, an impactful perspective that continues to resonate.
Overall, we’re truly thankful for this experience. A big thank you to our fellow classmates and friends for the support, energy, and great company throughout the trip. And special thanks to @freddiec.l for capturing these moments.
We would also like to extend our sincere gratitude to the @illinoislandarch for supporting and funding student attendance at this incredible conference.
Lastly, thank you to the @knowltonlandscape at The Ohio State University for hosting such an amazing event.
Excited for what’s to come and thankful for everything that’s happened so far! This year, the ASLA + Garden committee has planted over 1,000 native plants on Temple Hoyne property. We’ve also partnered with local native plant nursery, the wild Midwest to distribute plants. We’ve increased the number of native species surrounding Temple Hoyne Buell Hall, and as a result, we hear a symphony of creatures in the gardens daily. Hummingbird moths, robins, butterflies, and more have visited us! Please stop by to check out the gardens as they are prepped for the winter months🌱🌱 We are most thankful for Sofia T. Soudavanh, for inspiring us all to continue planting in the midst of any obstacle.
🚨*** we WILL have a limited stock of native plants at the sale**🚨 ( Tennessee coneflower, sensitive fern, black cohosh and more)
🌱Come check out our second annual native plant sale🌱@TempleHoyneBuellHall 611 E Lorado Taft Dr. October 17th 2-6pm!
We will have plants our RSO has grown, as well as from local businesses ; @thewildmidwestllc@plant_mode and @plantedcu
🌱The UIUC ASLA chapter has held sales this past year, with inventory ranging from house plants to native perennials! Vanessa Arteaga, a BLA student and our horticulture lead, has led and organized the sales!
She has also partnered with local businesses, such as @thewildmidwestllc and @plant_mode . Thank you to both local companies for supporting our chapter and helping us create a more biodiverse landscape!
We hope future horticulture leads within the chapter continue to establish and care for community partnerships.🌱
🌿Interested in becoming the next horticulture lead for our ASLA chapter? Please reach out for information and join our UIUC ASLA student chapter to get started!🌿
🍂Inspired by the late BLA candidate Sofia T. Soudavanh's last wish, a garden was installed in her memory in May 2022.
Since its installation, the garden has been a testament to the dedication of our students and faculty, who have been nurturing and caring for it every season. In its third summer, the garden is in constant bloom and is in the process of getting an extension!
Sofia has indirectly spearheaded the initiative to beautify Temple Hoyne Buell Hall's landscape!
🌱Please message if you are interested in being part of the Temple Hoyne Buell Hall Garden committee, where you can also care for Sofia's Garden! 🌱. Photo credits to Assistant Professor Conor O’Shea, BLA students Vanessa Arteaga & Ana Cervantes.
Come join Vanessa @vanessa0085 at the UIUC chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architecture's booth @uiuc_asla at Sustainapalooza on the Quad tomorrow!
Vanessa will have butternut trees, bur oaks, sumac, geraniums, bluestemmed goldenrod, and more!
