Art Department Faculty Statement in Support of GEO The faculty of UIC’s Art Department stands in solidarity with members of the Graduate Employees Organization (GEO). GEO has been at the bargaining table with UIC for over a year. Throughout that time, they have been working without a contract. This is unacceptable. Our graduate students perform essential labor in the Art Department and university. They make vital contributions in the areas of research, teaching, and service. They are the next generation of scholars, educators, and professionals in their chosen fields.  GEO needs a contract that guarantees a living wage, job security, quality health care, and protections for international students.  We respect and support our graduate students, and we urge UIC and the University of Illinois system to settle with the GEO immediately. This statement is posted upon request from the majority of full-time faculty in the Art Department. It does not reflect all views among the faculty, nor is it an official statement of the university or department.
