The DOE announced that the clerical day on June 5 will be remote. This affects 3k, pre-K, elementary schools, middle schools, K-12 schools and District 75. Staff will work remotely on this day and students are not in attendance. The decision was made after encouragement from the UFT to make it a remote workday.
High schools and 6-12 schools have a regular in-person workday with students in attendance on June 5.
It’s teacher appreciation week and let me tell you the best one you have to count on to give you what deserve is YOU. It’s important to embrace the art of conserving energy while teaching. We know this job will suck every last bit of life out of you if you let it. And when you protect your own energy, you are a better teacher, a happier person in general. The kids will feel it too. But hey, this is about you.
We don’t talk enough about making sure our lessons are structured in a way that lets us conserve our own energy. And we should. Yes, a lot of us are using scripted curriculums but there are ways to modify to make sure that we give ourselves the best shot we have to keeping our peace. I taught through two pregnancies, herniated discs…and what I learned was doing less on my part didn’t equal students doing less. In fact…it can be the opposite.

I’ve been getting a lot of questions around understanding salary steps etc. what’s the 30 above? When do we get longevity? What are all these codes and numbers on the paystub?
I’m not a salary specialist…and there are incredible salary reps in every borough to help with specific questions. But I wanted to share this new salary checker tool bc it is SO helpful in showing you where you are in your pay journey, when you can expect more; what the codes mean and what factors into getting the max pay you deserve.

Retention bonus today for Q Bank and here are things to remember. It’s the DOE paying us since they are the employer. The UFT just fights them to make them pay if they try to play us. Yes this is a light up crochet needle.
Open market is OPEN! But vacancies will still take a while. So don’t fret. Set up your account. You can still apply to a school before a vacancy is even posted. Did you know that? Just search the school name. But if you wait until school budgets are released there are going to be tons of vacancies. Remember, schools asked for a total of 6k new positions in class size funding. State budget being delayed is likely delaying schools and city… but by June we should be good, probably earlier. I’ll keep you posted when I see stuff start to pop up.
