UE policy for 2025-27, adopted by delegates at last month’s UE convention, has now been posted on the UE website at ueunion.org/ue-policy UE policy is set by rank-and-file delegates to our biennial national convention in the form of resolutions that are discussed and debated on the convention floor. Resolutions are submitted by UE local unions, regional councils and the UE General Executive Board. UE policies are revised at each convention. The policy of our union represents a fundamental agreement between UE local unions to work and stand together on a variety of issues. It is a voluntary agreement; there is no “enforcement power” held by the national union. On the other hand, the willingness of UE locals to live up to the agreement they’ve reached with each other has been the source of our strength as a national union since UE was founded in 1936. #UE79th

Yesterday we mobilized to Barstow because BNSF wants to build the biggest rail yard in the country there. That means more trains, more pollution, more health issues in our communities from the ports, to the rail lines on the Eastside, and through the Inland Empire. The Alameda Corridor could have and should have been electrified decades ago. ELECTRIFY ALAMEDA NOW!!! #WeAreJustTryingToBreathe #ElectrifyAlamedaNow #FightingForLife

Listen to what these two union leaders had to say when asked what their favorite recent action was! Whether it’s improvements in the workplace or national actions like May Day, change starts by talking to your fellow workers. #solidarity #union #unionstrong #workerrights #MayDay

Members of UE Local 123 at Daikin Industries ratified a new four-year contract at the end of April. The contract guarantees 6% wage increases for the lowest paid workers, increases vacation days and paid time off, and improves language on other benefits. It also increases shift differential pay from $.80 to $2.30 per hour, giving second and third shift workers an additional $1.50 raise. “There’s quite a bit of important stuff in this contract that we got changed that we really needed,” said Local 123 President Gary Bottenfield. “It wasn’t just one thing that was a win, it was all of it.” Read more about their new contract using the link in our story.

BIG Pollution, BIG Problems. UE’s Green Locomotive Project is working with local community organizations in Barstow, California to keep the BNSF railroad and billionaire Warren Buffet from increasing freight pollution throughout southern California. BNSF and Buffett are betting they can buy off local politicians in Barstow and increase freight pollution throughout southern California for their benefit. We’re calling on the public to submit written comments by emailing [email protected]. Tell the city to reject the Environmental Impact Report. This Saturday, May 16, show up at Barstow Community College to make your voice heard. The community will be mobilizing at noon and the hearing starts at 1pm. Check out /green-locomotive-project to learn more about UE’s Green Locomotive Project.

When management at Planned Parenthood of Western Pennsylvania threatened to cut gender-affirming healthcare for 18-year-old patients, UE Local 696 members who work there fought back. At the recent Eastern Region Council Meeting, Local 696 Vice President Nina Mulroy explained how they won continuation of this care. After months of planning and coalition building, 13 unions representing bargaining units across 10 different university campuses and branches around New Mexico, including UE Locals 1466 and 1498, gathered in Albuquerque for the first Higher Education Labor United (HELU) summit in the state. The summit included presentations covering legislative advocacy, New Mexico Tax Code, and successful revenue campaigns in New Mexico and Massachusetts. AI is broadly unpopular with most Americans, but bosses insist on it. They force tech and creative workers to use it and surveil blue-collar workers with it.
