Iâve finally made it back since my DNF in 2019.
This time, I got an upset stomach after passing the 50km mark and ended up walking almost the entire remaining 20km.
I couldnât run as Iâd hoped, but no matter the result, I was determined to finish.
Because I was truly grateful that they invited me back every single year. @transvulcania
It was my first time running the full course. In the first half, just like before, I greeted the sunrise with a breathtaking view of Spainâs highest peak, Mount Teide, beyond a sea of clouds. In the second half, I circled the caldera, taking in spectacular views of the sea of clouds, stunning rock faces, and observatories from around the worldâit was absolutely magnificent.
The 17-km downhill was more technical than I imagined (I ended up walking the whole thing), but it felt like a gentler version of the Fujinomiya Route on Mount Fuji.
Descending all the way to the coast only to climb back up 300 meters at the very end really drove home just how challenging this course is.
Iâll have to come back for a rematch.
Or rather, itâs a race I want to run over and over again.
Itâs not easy to get to from Japan, but I highly recommend this race.
