🔱 Why she chose UC San Diego for PA school: I was drawn to UC San Diego due to its amazing teaching facilities and the opportunities to connect with many different health professionals on campus. I was also excited to explore and live in beautiful San Diego!
💭 Favorite memory so far: Attending the Padres vs. Dodgers game at Petco Park during my first quarter of PA school!
🩺 Desired specialty: I am keeping an open mind as I enter my clinical year next year, but I am currently drawn to pediatrics, ENT and orthopedics.
🏃 Favorite hobbies outside of school: I enjoy traveling, trying new foods/coffee spots and working out at Solidcore.
🌅 Favorite parts about living in San Diego: The weather is truly great out here in San Diego. I love that there is always some going on in the city to explore or try! I also really enjoy being close to La Jolla Shores for quick study breaks at the beach.
📚 Advice for future PA students: Say yes to new opportunities and challenges throughout the PA school—you never know where they can lead you.

The Family Medicine Student Interest Group recently hosted its annual procedure clinic to introduce MS1s to the family medicine specialty. 🩺
UC San Diego School of Medicine family medicine faculty, fellows, residents and alumni came to campus to lead this hands-on workshop for medical students on a variety of procedures, including suturing and punch biopsies.

At the Medical Student Pride Alliance's annual Rainbow Pin Ceremony, students were presented with a rainbow caduceus pin. They then took an oath representing their commitment as future health care providers to demonstrate and honor a lifelong dedication to advocating the unique and historically unmet needs of the LGBTQ+ community. 🏳️🌈
The pins, which students typically wear on their white coats in the clinical setting, serve as a visual reminder that all patients can feel safe and comfortable in their interactions with health care personnel.

Ido Avivi, MD, a postdoctoral scholar in the School of Medicine's Divison of Cardiovascular Medicine, took top honors in the second annual UC San Diego Postdoc PITCH Competition for communicating his research on preventing heart attacks by targeting inflammation, including how widely used GLP-1 drugs may play a role. 🫀💉
Avivi’s winning Postdoc PITCH presentation, entitled “Uniting Two Revolutions: The Future of Heart Attack Prevention,” described two converging revolutions in medicine: widely used GLP-1 drugs like Ozempic, Wegovy and Zepbound, and a growing understanding of the role of inflammation in heart disease.
Avivi will go on to represent the campus in the Torrey Pines Training Consortium’s Postdoc PITCH competition on Oct. 23, where he will compete against postdoc finalists from the Salk Institute, Sanford Burnham Prebys and Scripps Research.
