An open house, held yesterday by the students of Charles Evans Studio, for the newly remodeled UCO Sustainability Center in Liberal Arts North, room 130. Photos include an image of the original design rendering as well as the process board shown at the open house and finally photos of the completed space.
The concept of this design was based on the ripple effect in sustainability; how small, individual, or local actions—like reducing waste or adopting green energy—create expanding, interconnected positive impacts on environmental, social, and economic systems.
The Charles Evans students involved in both the design and implementation of this project are all juniors in the UCO Interior Design program from the Fall 2025 semester. Those students are Laura Tomlinson, Kaycee Tetreault, Hannah Hoffman, Lyndey Holding, Erika Garcia, Alan Espinosa, and Sara Boni. Both Laura Tomlinson and Kaycee Tetreault spearheaded the implementation phase of the project volunteering their time during the 2026 Spring semester. We would like to send a well-deserved congratulations to these students, and a happy Earth Week to all!

Shout out to all of our design students that got invited to present at The National Conference of Undergraduate Research! This year we had a total of 40 design students go and present on their research at NCUR in Richmond, VA.

The Interior Design Sophomores visited Mathis Design Studio today to hear from alumnus Nathan Hughes (@nhinteriordesignstudiosokc ). Nathan shared about his amazing career as a designer at Mathis Design Studio. He treated the group to breakfast snacks and swag bags and shared information on working with clients and the store's amazing product lines. He developed a fun design challenge for the students, in which they used the entire store to create small vignettes featuring fabrics, finishes, accessories, and artwork for fictional clients with specific needs. Afterward, Nathan gave an informative tour, highlighting the different types of furniture construction elements students should consider when making design decisions and furniture selections.
