SDG 14: Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development
SDG 14.5: by 2020, conserve at least 10 percent of coastal and marine areas, consistent with national and international law and based on best available scientific information
Throughout the course of history, the oceans have been a source of life for human beings and all living things. However, we are fast destroying our oceans with materials of consumerism. In order to survive, this must be stopped. We must take action. SDG14 encourages people of all ages to strive for cleaner oceans and better practices from everybody. We must act now if we are to save our source of life. Better practices include more sustainable fishing methods and less plastics being used and discarded in the oceans.
One can look to the Caribbean as a source of inspiration, where key stakeholders in the region have made the decision to act. For example, in the U.N report of 2013 it states “governments and territories signed a Caribbean challenge initiative leaders declaration in May 2013 committing them to protect and conserve 20% of their marine and coastal resources by 2020”. This initiative shows that with sustainability in mind we can strive to achieve our SDGs set out in the 2030 agenda
Target 14.1: By 2025, prevent and significantly reduce marine pollution of all kinds, in particular from land-based activities, including marine debris and nutrient pollution🌊
Our oceans cover about three quarters of the earth and provide about 3 billion people with a food source. It is the most diverse and important ecosystem However, marine pollution is a growing problem that needs to be addressed. The oceans are being contaminated with chemicals and trash by humans and it is killing the organisms in the ocean. 🐠
The trash in the ocean is a problem for not only the animals within it but for humans as well. The fish become tangled up in or consume the debris. The broken down plastic and chemicals within it negatively impact the fish and eventually becomes fish that humans eat. 🗑
It is crucial that we start taking care of our oceans now before it is too late. Clean up operations and an end to single use plastic are necessary, in conjunction with numerous other pollution prevention initiatives. 🌎🌱
SDG Goal ten focuses on reducing inequalities. However, due to the Covid 19 pandemic discrimination in regards to race and ethnicity has increased for many Asian communities across the world. We must work hard to reverse this increase in discrimination to achieve SDG goal ten by 2030.

🌍SDG 3 focuses on good health and well-being.🌍 As students, taking care of our mental health coming up to exam season is vital. We encourage you to take breaks, do things you enjoy and meet people as far as restrictions allow. You will thank yourself for it in the end and will feel yourself more focused, productive and a lot less stressed. Nothing should compromise your mental health! #sdg3 #goodhealthandwelbeing #mentalhealth
SDG 4 -quality education
After the tough year young students have had, it is time to take action!
The government had to make some tough decisions regarding the continuation of our education during the pandemic and now that we are moving on... we need to make sure we start off on the right foot again.
This is an opportunity to reshape our education system and start fresh, re-evaluate what are education was like before and during covid. Use our past and personal experiences as students to tell our universities what is and isn’t working. We have an opportunity now to create an education system that works for us. One that is inclusive, considerate of all learning abilities and effective.
We need to work along side our universities to develop a method of teaching and examining that works for all students.

Quality Education is the UN’s 4th SDG. Its’ overall goal is to “ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all”, (UN, 2021). Education as a Priority and the long-term consequence of COVID-19 for vulnerable youth groups are extremely important challenges that we face today. During COVID-19, as we all know, schools were forced to move to online learning due to school closures, and this will have the most significant impact on disadvantaged children. Quality education is a driving factor in eliminating poverty and ensuring prosperity, peace, and opportunity globally, as it enables upward socioeconomic mobility, so it is extremely important that we all play a part in making a change to help achieve #SDG4 . #YOUTH2030#GlobalGoals#SDGweekUCD#EducationPriority
SDG 3 focuses on mental health and well being. This week, we encourage you to focus on your mental health through self reflection. Self reflection is the act of assessing yourself
Self reflection can consist of:
- Things you're grateful for
- Allowing yourself to feel all emotions without any judgements
- Reflecting on your actions, what have you been doing right? What can you improve on?
- What do you want to achieve in your day/week/month/year?
- Doing the uncomfortable tasks you may be holding off (College work, paying bills etc).
SDG 12: Sustainable Consumption and Production. Our overconsumption of food has lead to animals becoming production functions of industrialised farming. It is our moral obligation to acknowledge the suffering and abuse animals endure to contribute to overconsumption. #sdg12 #climateaction #youth2030 #plantbased #ethicalfood #sustainableeating #responsibleconsumption #greenhousegasemissions #globalgoals #ucdsdg #unitednations
SDG 4 - Quality eduacation
Target 4.3 - By 2030, ensure equal access for all women and men to affordable and quality technical, vocational and tertiary education, including university.
After the tough year we have had, we need to build back up our education system for our own future and the future of generations to come.
Quality education can only become accessible to all if we have a good education system in place.
