On Tuesday @uca_designprogramme Year 3 Spatial Design students had the last review for their Final Major Project.
For this project our students have responded to the theme of connection in proposing an exciting rage of designs for one of 5 sites at the Historic Dockyard Chatham.
For Tuesday’s review, each student presented a draft of their posters for the degree show, summarising their project from concept to detail design.
The degree show launches on Thursday 11 June.
Huge thanks to our guest reviewers for their enthusiastic engagement with the work and the ideas behind it.

Laurence Campbell is a British comic artist who rose from Caliber Comics to 2000AD before breaking into Marvel Comics. He’s worked on Punisher Max, Deadpool Pulp, Moon Knight, and Marvel Universe Vs Wolverine, and is known for his noir-influenced naturalism and strong graphic style.
Join us this April 15 to hear how he tackles the challenge of turning a writer’s script into finished pages! 🔥

Yesterday, our first year BA (Hons) Interior Design students presented some of their design work in the last session before Easter Break! After a well earned rest, their task will be to produce a set of design proposal drawings to fully communicate their schemes for a reimagining of Canterbury's Sidney Cooper Gallery - watch this space! Special thanks to our Programme Director, JJ Brophy, who joined us for the day too.

Year 2 3D Design students are currently developing prototypes for their latest project, exploring how assembly, disassembly, and repair can shape both design outcomes and the user experience.
Working within a selected brand context, students are designing a product or system that communicates the brand’s identity, values, and narrative. Through material exploration, testing, and hands-on prototyping, the studio and workshop have become spaces of experimentation where ideas evolve through making.
These prototypes mark an important stage in the design process, transforming research and concepts into tangible, functional outcomes.

Our Year 2 3D Design students recently had an exciting study visit to London. The day began at the V&A, where students explored the products displayed in the Great Exhibition collection, gaining insight into the history of design and innovation.
From there, the group walked to Japan House London to experience Hyakkō: 100+ Makers from Japan, discovering incredible craftsmanship and contemporary work from Japanese designers and makers. The trip concluded at the Design Museum, where students explored the iconic products that have shaped design history.
An inspiring day full of creativity, learning, and design discovery!

Our Year 2 3D Design students have just completed a connected workshop series exploring pattern design, screen printing, and metal box making.
The project began with an Adobe Illustrator session, where students designed surface patterns for their pieces. These designs were then brought into the screen printing workshop and printed directly onto metal sheets.
Using the printed sheets, students fabricated their own metal boxes with lids, before adding personal details and finishing touches to reflect their individual ideas.
It’s been great to see the whole process come together from digital pattern design to the final handcrafted objects. Swipe to see some of the final pieces and moments from the workshops.
