This week we’re featuring Nic (PC ‘23), who recently completed her study abroad in Ireland!! We missed her so much while she was away, but we’re so happy for all the incredible experiences and memories she made during her exchange! Here’s what Nic has to say about her experience! 🌟
“It was an incredible experience studying abroad at Trinity College Dublin, fulfilling a childhood dream of mine. Not only did it give me the chance to explore the country and connect with my Irish roots, I also loved getting to travel to countries like France, Italy, and Malta. I was able to expand my psychology knowledge by enrolling in classes unique to Trinity, such as Creative Cognition. Just when I was missing my Thetas, my sister Anina visited to celebrate St. Paddy’s with me! Many guinesses and spice bags later, my heart is filled with grá and memories to take home xx”

“I joined Theta this past fall because I wanted to get involved as much as possible in my first year of college, especially because I didn’t know anybody at UBC. I had no idea how amazing of an experience I would have just in my first two semesters as a Theta! I have met some of my closest friends through this chapter and am so proud to call everyone in it my sister. Some of my favorite memories include visiting my friends’ hometowns for a night, volunteering at the food bank, getting ready for semi and formal together, and having group dinners before chapter meetings. I’m constantly inspired by these girls and am so excited to see what the next years hold for us!!”

Meet this Californian big little duo, who took their friendship from home to UBC and Theta! Alessandra and Tessa’s friendship has only grown since moving to Vancouver, and you can rarely find one without the other!! Keep reading to hear what they have to say about each other! 💖
Alessandra: “I’m so honored to have Tessa as not only my little, but my roommate and best friend. I genuinely can’t imagine my life without her; we do everything together, including taking care of our lovely cat, Mignon! Our multiple years of friendship mean so much to me, and being in Theta together has only brought us closer. No matter what we’re doing, whether it’s getting ready for formal, studying,or going for a late night boba run, we always have the absolute best time. Tessa is so caring and honest, and I’m eternally grateful for our friendship.”
Tessa: “Alessandra has been my best friend for 10+ years, and I cannot imagine a better person to have faced those years with. We have gone from middle school, to high school, to university with each other and are now roommates. She has been a part of every important moment whether good or bad and has been such a huge part of who I am today. Alessandra naturally became my big in Theta and I could not have hoped for a better big, she was the one to introduce me to all of my Theta friends. Our friendship is the type where we can be doing anything whether it’s driving to see the sunset or simply existing in the same room, it’ll always be a fun time and end with laughter. Alessandra is so kind and considerate and I am so endlessly grateful to call her my best friend.”

Jasmine: “My time in Theta has been so special and formative. Not only was I given the opportunity to gain leadership experience, I was also able to participate in and give back to the community, and these experiences truly shaped who I am today. Beyond this, the friendships I have made have made me a better person and a better woman, and I am so honoured to say that these women will always be my family. I am sad to close this chapter of my life, but I know Theta is in good hands, and cannot wait to see where it goes. TLAM”
Ella: “My time in Theta has meant so much to me! I’ve met some of my closest friends here and made so many amazing memories along the way. Theta has pushed me to grow, try new things, and become more confident in myself. I’ve felt so supported and inspired by such an incredible group of women and I’m so grateful for this chapter and everything it’s given me!”
Amena: “My time in Theta has been one of the most important parts of my university experience. When I joined, I was looking for a sense of belonging, but I found so much more. I discovered a group of women who always support and encourage each other. Taking on leadership roles like VP of Education and New Member Director helped me grow in ways I never imagined. I became more confident, empathetic, and responsible to those around me. What matters most to me is the real connection I found in this chapter. Theta was a place where I felt supported during both the good times and the tough ones. The friendships I made here will last long after graduation, and I know they will always be some of the most important relationships in my life. I am truly grateful for the memories, the lessons, and the people who made this experience so special. Theta has shaped who I am today, and I will always carry that with me.”

Throughout their time in Theta, they have been a constant support and have truly embodied what it means to be leading women. Here’s what they have to say about their experience! ✨
Cali: “When I first joined Theta all the way back in my first year at UBC, I had no idea that I would end up meeting the most incredible women who have now become my closest friends. Coming to Vancouver alone as an out-of-province student, this chapter has been my home away from home for the past four years, and I can’t imagine my university experience without this group of girls. Theta has taught me leadership, love, and genuine sisterhood, and I’m so beyond grateful for all the memories that I’ve made here 💛”
Liv: “Theta has truly been the most meaningful part of my university experience. The friendships I’ve built here mean the world to me, and getting to grow alongside such strong, supportive women has shaped me into who I am today. I am so unbelievably proud of my lineage and watching it grow, and seeing the love and support continue through each new member has been so special. Serving as HRD was my way of giving back to a chapter that has given me everything. Being in charge of sisterhood meant so much to me, and I will always remember the love and support this chapter has given me as I move on to the next stage of my life.”
Amanda: “Being part of Theta has given me so many meaningful leadership opportunities and some of the friendships I’ll value long after university. Through this chapter, I’ve had the chance to grow in confidence, take on new responsibilities, and learn more about myself while being surrounded by such a supportive group of women. I’m especially grateful for the experiences that challenged me to grow, and for the friends who made every part of that journey so memorable. Theta has been such a special part of my university experience, and I’ll always look back on it with a lot of gratitude and love.”

“It was an honour to receive a Certificate of Thanks in recognition of valuable services rendered to the society from The Royal Life Saving Society Commonwealth Council this past weekend! The event was filled with role models, devoted volunteers, and touching personal rescue stories that inspires me to ‘recognize whoever in distress as a fellow human being’. Lifesaving is important to me as I work in education and prevention in water-related situations. Therefore, the recognition from my award made me feel seen by the efforts I put into my communities and inclined to help more.”
