Dancers, try these tips for long leg extensions 📏🦵🏽🩰
1. Lift up before you lift out: lengthen through your crown & standing leg first. If the torso compresses, the working leg loses height
2. Standing leg is the one: your extension is only as stable as the supporting side. Keep the standing knee engaged.. lifted quad, active glute, grounded foot.
3. Turnout from the hip: rotation should start high in the hip socket for a fully engaged line, not the foot.
4. Engage low abs: If your pelvis tips and ribs pop the leg line gets shorter.
5. Move through the pathway: in développé, hold your turn out & pass through coupé/passé with intention. In illusions, trace the arc cleanly. In fondues, hit each shape
6. Reach through back of knee: for straight-leg lines, don’t lock the knee, lengthen through inner thigh to toes
Remember that extensions look longer when your sternum is lifted and your limbs have energy. And, the real tea is - don’t forget to breathe!!
