What started on screen during a lesson became something more. Our new release Djaggety is a pixel font that began life in the classroom as a teaching tool. It’s now out in the world, having taught us a few things along the way.

Alessia Mazzarella is an Italian typeface designer based in London. She holds an MA in Typeface Design from the University of Reading, in addition to degrees in Graphic Design from Central Saint Martins, London, and Sapienza University, Rome. Alessia began her career designing typefaces for prominent British type foundries, contributing to international projects. In 2020, she co-founded Typeland with her partner, Vaibhav Singh. The studio specialises in custom, retail, and multi-script typeface design. Combining in-depth research with meticulous attention to visual and technical details, Typeland has produced unique, high-quality designs that stand out in the industry. Their work has gained international recognition and earned various awards over the years. The fusion of geometric and grotesque forms isn’t commonly seen in Devanagari type design. Maintaining the conventions of a script and the expectations of an existing typeface is a fine balancing act, especially when it is one so well-established, like Proxima Nova.
