Model of the Meso House by yours truly for @studio.jih
This is what 50 pounds of Rockite gives you
Architect's project description:
"A house that precisely frames paired thermal and visual experiences of ocean, forest, and ledge. Meso House sits between a key slot ocean view, a tree dappled site, and a figural ledge, woven together by a thermal sauna and bathing sequence. Looking to the filmic framing of Yasujiro Ozu, an enfilade of living spaces tilt and telescope out towards the ocean view. This organizing axis is defined and intersected by concrete piers that extend to the sides, in turn framing spaces of thermal and visual transition to the wooded site on one hand and a ledge-lined horizon on the other. Within the wooded site, a sauna, cold plunge, mist, and pool, are arranged about a granite formation to encourage basking on its thermal mass. Visual and thermal experience, each coupled to the other, seek to facilitate a fully embodied relationship to site at the scale of both skin and sight."
Tuskegee brick tolerance embodiment study as part of Brick x Brick: Drawing a Particular Survey - instructed by @carrie_norman_ and @mon.boudoir
---
As a counterpoint to the Historic American Buildings Survey (HABS), the following survey presents four of six labored drawings that attempt to highlight the types of hands—student hands—that brought Tuskegee's Wilcox D to fruition. Each drawing presents an extracted portion of exterior masonry. Imposed matrices of red ticks serve to gauge the level of brick joint deviation from what is considered an acceptable on-site tolerance by today’s industry standards. The intent is not to criticize the work of Tuskegee’s student masons but rather to highlight the variations in dimensional tolerance embodied by each brick, particularly made through a learning process that was not taught or governed by an overseeing industry.
Wowee what an immense honor it is to be this year's Archisource Drawing of the Year winner within the hand drawn category. Thank you to the Archisource team and jury for working so diligently to maintain such a wonderful platform.

I had no choice but to destroy the formwork on this one :'(

If you asked me to choose one building that best exemplifies the level of design mastery that I aspire to, I would choose Mario Botta's Church of San Giovanni without any hesitation. Perfect proportions, perfect materials, and a perfect site.
