This is a short sequence which hits a big accent every 8 beats, done with the 3 timings least taught in classes. First on 7, then on 5, then on 3.
Many people like to dance on these timings, but don’t know how to hit the big satisfying chicote on the downbeat of musical phrases- which is commonly done when dancing on 1. So I’ve heard people ask how to do it, and here’s 9 ways. Btw, don’t dance with this many accents, it’s obnoxious. But it quickly shows some possibilities.
Basically, if you want a chicote(cambré, saída, accent) on the chick chick, you lead it on a boom (lead on step 7 for chicote on 1, lead on 3 for chicote on 5). If you want a chicote on a boom, lead on the chick chick (lead on 1 for chicote on 3, lead on 5 for chicote on 7).
We often dance these from turns. When dancing on the 1 or 7, it’s easiest for the follower to turn left into chicote (regular soltinho) When dancing on the 5 or 3, turn right (reverse soltinho). Saídas work with normal head motion on 5 (normal) and 3 (twice around on the mergulho side). Reverse head motion works for on 1 and 7.
Generally people syncopate into accents when dancing on the quick- they go
chick-chick-Boom,
chick-chick-boom-chick-CHICK,
boom,
chick-chick-Boom
Dancing on the slow, you can keep time steady-
chick-chick-Boom,
chick-chick-BOOM,
chick-chick-Boom
But because people are used to quickly leaving accents, you’ll need to stay in place for the whole chick chick boom before leaving, a light touch on the shoulder helps. Or you could do a double turn.
Why do this? It’s fun. There’s more variety. Do it, enjoy #lambada #lambadaontheslow #lambazouk #zoukbrasileiro
To me, this is today’s New York Hustle
I’ve watched this vid countless times.
1. Unmatched musicality. @tybaldt ‘s patterns predicting the music. @des.garcia_official ‘s footwork, cutting up the beat and staying on it, showing me 5 dances in one.
2. The completely casual, funky, freestyle vibe w 100% (ok maybe 99%) connection. Even when she’s not looking, following all his complexity because they have PHYSICAL connection technique in their bodies.
3. THAT NEW YORK ENERGY (prob Nelson helped) and the bpm isn’t even all that fast but it’s still full of fire
4. Destiny’s sneakers w shoe socks because she got the memo about the baby powder 😊
Two pros (of many many styles) who hold it down in the studio and hold it down harder at the club. GOALS. #newyorkhustledance
We rarely get to dance together because of traveling and schedules, so we made sure to put together a Hustle choreography when we had the chance last Summer. Video and editing by @d.g.noble #hustle #hustledance #latinhustle #
