i’ve suffered from debilitating eye floaters for over 10 years. as a “young candidate” most doctors refuse to operate on me since they can’t even see my floaters due to them being so small and close to my retina. i’ve been forced to wear sun glasses 24/7 and have opted more times than not to just stay inside in a dark room rather than go for walks or enjoy nature. it affects my ability to produce music and work at my day job because staring at bright screens is hell (thank god for dark mode). even working out sucks, it’s like shaking a snow globe 😭 recently i’ve been trying to be more active and do more outdoorsy things and it’s still just so hard and unenjoyable sometimes. it’s led me to quite a depression and admittedly ongoing suicidal thoughts for a long time now. there are only 1-2 doctors in the US who perform the operation called a vitrectomy on young patients to remove the liquid vitreous eye gel where the problem lives because of complications. they say it’s almost a guarantee you will develop cataracts within a couple years. i’m so so tired of living like this and forcing myself to try to “ignore” the floaters as all of my previous ophthalmologists have suggested… i think it’s time to finally bite the bullet and get the procedure by one of the specialists willing to do it. apparently the cost is $7500 per eye and i am sure insurance will not cover it. however, it is going to be so worth it to not have my vision impaired by translucent black strings, dots and cobwebs anymore so i can actually enjoy my life again. it’s taken 10 years from me and i refuse to let it take more. please pray for me as i go through the scheduling process and continue to work up the courage to move forward with this hopefully positive life changing surgery.
