Well folks, this is it - our last weekend shaving ice on The DragđĽš
Itâs been fun setting up here these last few months. The college kids, the families stopping by after dinner, and the thrifters.
You all made this spot feel like home, even though weâre East Side through and through.
We are shifting gears to focus on private events while we sit tight and wait for the city to let us serve East Austin again.
(Currently we are facing lots of waiting, lots of paperwork, lots of playing by rules that keep changing.)
So if youâve been thinking about booking us for your birthday party, family reunion, or whatever celebration you got coming up, nowâs the time. Weâll bring the Avalanche experience right to youđ§
And if youâre reading this and havenât tried us yet - you got two more days. Donât say we didnât warn you.
Thanks for making this chapter memorable, Austinâ¤ď¸
âWhereâs Avalanche?â - We hear you, Austin. We said April, then MayâŚhereâs what happened.
After losing our original spot to development, we had an idea of serving snow cones from our front yard - just like old East Austin used to do.Â
We jumped through every hoop, got approval from 4 city departments, and spent months transforming our yard into a community hangout spot while solving a list of other issues with adjacent neighbors.
Standing in that yard, brothers in arms and tears in our eyes wishing Grandma could see us keeping her legacy alive - we thought weâd pulled it off.
Then came THE news. New person, same department. The previous âyesâ became a ânoâ, because âsometimes the help desk is wrongâ. â¨â¨Easy way out for them, hard consequences for our family since we canât get that time & money back.
Here is what doesnât add up: Austin promotes cultural preservation, supports longtime residents, encourages developments that blend residential & commercial uses on the same property, and has initiatives like âThe Spirit of East Austinâ to help local businesses thrive (not to mention there are several other home/businesses on our street).â¨â¨Meanwhile, Austin approved $104 million for I-35 parks while facing budget shortfalls. As Council Member Krista Laine said: âI hope we can apply the same tenacity to finding money for residents who cannot afford to live this close to the city.ââ¨â¨â¨Thatâs literally us.
â¨Weâre asking for your help, Austin.đđźâ¨Share our story by sharing this post. â¨â¨Show the city that supporting local families IS preserving Austinâs soul and living up to their stated values.
For now, find us weekends at Montopolis Youth Sports Complex (400 Grove Blvd).
Thank you for your patience as we work through this together.â¤ď¸

Weâre back for Chicano Park Day on August 24th and bringing 75 FREE snowballs with us. If you missed us last year, donât sleep on it this time!đđź
Those free snowballs are courtesy of Priority Roofing, which happens to be ranked #18 in the nation. Why am I telling you about roofing at a snowball post? Because thatâs me too! Iâm Mr. Avalanche behind the trailer, but Iâm also the guy keeping roofs storm-ready across Austin and surrounding areasđ
Always nearby, always available, always looking out for my neighbors!đ¤â¨â¨Whether youâve got leaks, hail damage, or youâre just not sure what your roof needs - Iâll come take a look. No pressure, no gimmicks. Even if you donât go with me, Iâll make sure youâre informed and protectedđđź
Plus every free roof inspection comes with 3 FREE snowballs! Just my way of saying thanks and keeping things cool. â¨
Just a local business owner doing right by his city, whether itâs from the rooftop or the trailer windowđ§

What makes Avalanche different from everywhere else? Let me paint you a picture...
Most places? Theyâre crunching through blocks with machines that spit out chunky ice. Weâre using precision-shaving that creates cloudsâď¸âď¸
Others dump artificial syrup on top? Weâre using flavors that actually absorb into the ice - every bite is full of flavor, not just the first few.
Big chains serve snow cones? Weâre serving Texas culture on ice, come see for yourself!đ§đ¤
Weâll be open at 1:30pm today

For over 70 years, our family has served this city.
In the 1950s, our great-grandmother Eulalia ran an in-house daycare from our family home, caring for neighborhood children when families needed it most.
Her daughter, Gloria, dedicated a third of her life to education and East Austin activism.
Her grandson, Arthur, spent over a decade in education and is still lovingly known as âMr. Pacoâ at the Emma S. Barrientos Mexican-American Culture Center.
Today, we continue that legacy with Avalanche - the only locally owned and operated shaved-ice trailer in East Austin.
From daycare to education to activism to snow cones - different generations, same heartâĽď¸
Starting this weekend, weâll be continuing that service at Salsa Limon (3001 Guadalupe St) - right across from Pavement thrift store. Full schedule coming soon!đđź
Austin, we have some good news and some bad newsđ
Our plans to relaunch this month have hit a few speed bumps, and weâll be pushing our grand opening to May.
Weâve been hustling non-stop to bring our new location to life, even the whole family has pitched in - Nanaâs, Nonoâs, Ninaâs and Ninoâs!
The good news? This extra time means weâre building something bigger than we ever imagined. Like, way bigger!
Your patience means the world to us, and we canât wait to welcome you to our new homeđđźâ¤ď¸
