A stay-at-home dad turned pitmaster, Chef John transformed a backyard passion into a competitive BBQ team and Hill Country food truck. What started with a Craigslist offset smoker has grown into a full-scale operation — including a 500-gallon pit.
Based in Boerne, Chef John and his family-run team proudly serve the Hill Country and recently competed in the 2025 World Food Championships BBQ Championship.

Now that we are back home, we are excited to share that we received 2nd place in this year’s San Antonio Rodeo BBQ cookoff for "You pick it" aka Chef’s Choice category out of 337 teams! This is a big deal for us.
We are also excited to share our brisket finished 37th!! With so many great teams (US and International teams) cooking this past weekend, we feel very happy with those results.
Jen and Ruben with Cafe Don Juan finished 31st for their dessert and we couldn't be more proud of them!
We couldn't have done it with out everyone's support.
