things I will NEVER discuss with a bride on her wedding day OR any client for that matter:
• Politics or negative current events
You can’t market yourself as a luxury artist and then bring heavy, negative, or personal energy into the room.
No one wants negativity shoved down their throat. You will lose clients over it—I know because even as an artist myself, I’ve chosen not to return to paid services because of this.
This is a once-in-a-lifetime moment they are paying for. Keep your social media aligned. Clients see that, and not everyone shares the same views.
Just do what you’re being hired to do and keep the conversation positive.
• Bad weather
The bride has already been checking the forecast for the last two weeks—we all know what it’s doing. There is zero need to point it out or comment on it. It only adds unnecessary stress.
• Gossip about past clients
If you’re talking negatively about another client, the bride is sitting there wondering if you’ll be talking about her at your next wedding. It breaks trust instantly. Keep it professional, always.
I can’t teach someone how to be “professional.” These things should be common sense.
This is about remaining professional in a fun, relaxing moment for someone paying not only for hair and makeup—but for the entire experience.
And if a client starts going in that direction, I instantly steer the conversation back to something positive.
