‼️ It’s time to continue the fight for quality social studies curriculum standards at the State Board of Education (SBOE) 📣 Starting now, Texans have 30 days to submit online public comments on the proposed new social studies Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS). It’s critical that we make our voices heard by submitting comments before the SBOE votes on final approval in June. Instructions: ➡️Visit: tfn.org/sboecomment ➡️ In the section where you’re asked to “Select one proposed SBOE rule action,” choose “Proposed New 19 TAC Chapter 113, Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills for Social Studies, Subchapter A, Elementary, Subchapter B, Middle School, Subchapter C, High School, and Subchapter D, Other Social Studies Courses.” We will continue to encourage submissions throughout the 30 day comment period 🌟

Then, now, and forever we will fight for public education. Flipping through the archive from 1995 on reminds us of one thing… we won’t EVER back down. For over 30 years, we’ve been showing up to hold the SBOE accountable and work together to fight for a public education system that is honest and accessible for all. The fight continues. Are you with us? Get involved. TFN.org/teachthetruth

A lot things concerned us about last month's SBOE meeting, but one argument from right-wing members of the board is deeply troubling: The idea that the separation of church and state "doesn’t exist." Not only is this idea factually incorrect, it's against everything our founders believed in. These are the people who decide what our public school students learn. Concerned about the state of the SBOE? Join our fight: tfn.org/sboe

This is what it looks like when politicians and political parties try to decide whose values belong in our schools. We believe in religious freedom for everyone, not just one group chosen by politicians. Public schools belong to all of us, and every student deserves to feel welcome in them.

Andrew’s story is a reminder that legacy is something we build across a lifetime, and that it can extend far beyond it. “We will honor Andrew not only in remembrance, but in action, by continuing to defend public education, advance equality, and build the kind of Texas where the next generation of advocates can thrive, just as he helped so many do.” - Felicia Martin, TFN President and Executive Director Read about Andrew’s life and legacy in our newest blog: TFN.org/blog
