IDI - “Indirect injection” diesel engine is a type of internal combustion engine that injects fuel into a small pre-combustion chamber, rather than directly into the main cylinder. This design was popular in vehicles from the 1980s and early 1990s, known for its simplicity, reliability, and quieter operation compared to early direct injection (DI) diesels. However, IDI engines are generally less fuel-efficient and produce less power than their modern DI counterparts due to heat loss and a less efficient combustion process.
