Amanda Kidd-Kestler @twocatpress is an artist, arts administrator, and community organizer. She currently serves as the Executive Director of the New Hampshire Art Association (NHAA), where she champions the visual arts and provides critical support for both emerging and established local artists. Introducing “Into the Hollow” – a collaborative art exhibit featuring Amanda Kidd-Kestler, Elise Morissette, and Alex Jutras. Into the Hollow explores echoes of the natural world through ceramics, printmaking, prose, cyanotypes, and large-scale paintings. Each work speaks to the quiet transformations of Autumn: branches bending beneath the weight of time, leaves curling back into the earth, and owls keeping watch as daylight slips into shadow. Together, these pieces invite viewers into stillness, to reflect on the beauty and mystery carried within the fading light of the season. The exhibit will be showcased at the Exeter Public Library from October 2-30. Please join us for the opening reception on October 11 from 11 AM – 1 PM. Amanda Kidd-Kestler @twocatpress Tears for the Vanishing, 2024 ceramic stoneware with gold leaf in Room of Wonders: A Worcester Wunderkammer @cantorartgalleryhc I create installations composed of many small ceramic pieces that come together as a unified whole. This reflects the strength of the collective, as seen in nature and in social movements. A recurring form in my work is the teardrop, which also echoes a shell, a pod, a yoni - symbols of ecofeminism that connect the body to nature. Clay grounds my practice with its quiet resilience and connection to human history. Gold leaf transforms these forms into vessels of reverence, honoring the sacredness of grief, beauty, and the earth. I wanted to challenge myself with Tidepool in evoking the experience of water for people. I studied water a lot, and knew that suminagashi was the best way to capture the fluid nature. I always loved @awagami_factory paper, and this Hosho paper really excites me as an artist. Durable enough to be stretched over embroidery hoops, but delicate enough to be soft and inviting into my pools of water. Tidepool is on display now! Our opening is this Friday from 5-8pm. March of the Periwinkle Installation of 33 ceramic vessels While researching species that live in New England tidepools, I was struck by the language used to describe invasive species such as the Common Periwinkle. I found strong parallels between the way immigrants and migrants have recently been portrayed in American media and the way scientists describe invasive species. Both are called threats, accused of wreaking havoc, and described as needing to be controlled. Common Periwinkles came to the Gulf of Maine in the 1800s by clinging to ship bottoms. A natural outcome for an emerging global economy. This work is a rumination on migration, the homes we create and carry on our backs, and a reflection on the meaning of "invasive".
