Welome to TWIN 21… ▽ This year’s Annual is a little different. Normally we leave the event talk to the websites, newspapers and content creators, while focusing on more timeless stories for our magazine. But this time we decided to open up the mag with a closer look at three very different events. First up is the @backcountryinvitational — going five years strong and on it’s way to becoming an international sensation. Has it found an answer to competitive skiing by shifting the focus away from winning? Then we take a last look at five years of surreal snow sculptures through the artistic eyes of @theo.acworth . The Swiss incarnation of @thenines.cc has taken us on a wild ride, from Crans Montana to Schilthorn, and we wish them well as they take their fleet of PistenBullies off to Japan. Last but not least, we get the inside intel on, “L’Amicale” which offers a more inclusive approach to backcountry adventures. Join the crew from @glacieroptics as they perfect the art of uphill skiing, mountain safety, and après ski. From there, it’s movie time with a closer look at the crew from @simplyrc.co ’s trip to Japan, @mountaintriber ’s morning ascent of Piz Muraun and @giuliatanno ’s experiences while filming for a new documentary. Finally, @funkyguegini gets the ender with some wise words about skiing in the shittiest snow. Our new Swiss Ski Annual is waiting for you at your local ski shop. ◇ 15 years ago I left my mountain home to start a new life by the lake. Since my job editing this magazine requires a lot of time in the snow, I suddenly found myself travelling a lot more often. But living all of those years at a low altitude also had some unexpected advantages. All of a sudden, I was more motivated than ever to explore new spots all over Switzerland. To be honest, I probably wouldn’t have bothered moving around so much if I still had a chairlift in my backyard. Last summer I returned to the mountains and probably won’t be spending so much time at the lake. So for our 20th issue, I think it made sense to pay homage to a very special spot, not far from my former home. But don’t worry, this magazine isn’t all about me… In this issue, @maudebesse shares her inspiring story of resilience, passion and spontaneity. @doosli goes for a dog walk and finds himself lost in a desert. @buhsch dissects the impossible tricks that went down in a 3.5 minute video that took 4 years to make. @laurentdm discusses the current state of our local snowparks. And in our final story, @mottierphotography shares the joy that he gets from his nocturnal missions. On top of that, we’re lucky to work with so many talented photographers, so you can enjoy three galleries with photos spanning all of the way from Antartica to Engelberg. Whether you live at 100 meters or 1000, please be sure to get out there and enjoy everything that our mountains have to offer.
