Rivers State Police Command has arrested and dismissed 8 police officers over alleged kidnapping, robbery, extortion, and stealing from residents in the state.
According to the police spokesperson, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, three inspectors attached to Zone 16 Headquarters in Yenagoa were arrested after they allegedly abducted and robbed a man identified as Festus Saturday along Igbo Etche Road in Port Harcourt.
Reports say the officers stopped the victim and his cousin while they were driving, assaulted them, forced them to unlock their phones, and allegedly transferred over N7.3 million from their bank and cryptocurrency accounts.
In another case, five officers from the Department of Operations (DOPS) Patrol Team were dismissed after investigations linked them to repeated cases of kidnapping, extortion, and robbery between September 2025 and January 2026.
The police said the officers allegedly targeted unsuspecting residents, forced victims to reveal their ATM and banking details, and then withdrew money from their accounts.
The dismissed officers are expected to face prosecution after the case was forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions.
