We had to let you go today. It was pretty sudden - the weight loss, the confusion, the thirst. Total renal failure, nothing left to be done but to rush home, take you up into my arms and let you die.
You were the best cat. Loved. Part of the family. And the whole family came together on your last day to help you pass.

Most of what we do at Hertzlab has a purpose: prototypes afford us learning opportunities, residents bring new perspectives, workshops teach us new skills, get us out of our comfort zones and are basis of new projects, public events like concerts bring feedback in our own cybernetic artistic research loop ^^ But every once in a while, we do little things that are purely impractical; that lead nowhere; that are just, well, fun. This is one of them. We'll be stringing up a few dozen of these inflatable shark balloons in our foyer: a sharknado for the #GPN23 @entropiagpn next week.
To new beginnings, without forgetting where we came from. This is the new seating arrangement in our concert venue/recording studio KUBUS. Our new series TURNS (curated by @lealukatiziana ) starts this month, and I'm excited for every single concert that's been planned, starting with Screaming Minerals that meet Morton Feldman on Valentine's Day.
With 24 public speaking gigs in total (talks & panels), 2024 was a busy year. I talked mostly about Hertzlab and artistic research at @zkmkarlsruhe . The second big focus was on AI and art or AI in (cultural) institutions.
Here's to 2025 and to all the new people I'll meet and all the new things I'll learn.

In theatre we know that celebrations are the social glue keeping the whole operation afloat. The celebration last night really was a team effort - all pulled together to make this possible, to get the space ready, to finish up the displayed projects in time. It marked not only the release of a VR production that we completed, "Spectral Haven", and the end of the intelligent.museum project, but also another phase of the transition of Hertzlab: we have made the plans, cleaned up and restructured, opened up rooms and avenues of thinking and making. Now we go and implement. I'm happy to say that I'm doing that with the best team imaginable.
Four people. Eight months. 800 scans in 8 countries. Eight versions (okay, 9.5 but close enough). "Spectral Haven" is finished and we will release it on Oct 31st. To be fair: when I post the behind-the-scenes mess, the things to be sorted, THIS is the gem that I'm actually talking about. This was last night's last concert of my predecessor Ludger Brümmer. 4 days of mostly Lautsprechermusik, some performance and talks about the future of electronic and algorithmic experimental music. I'm looking forward to the sorting out and new developments with my new colleague @lealukatiziana who will be joining ZKM tomorrow!
Yellow. We are opening "Fellow Travellers" at ZKM today - and the Hertzlab gives a glimpse in what a growing exhibition means. We'll be finished when we're finished and then you can see, and come play with the Rohrpost.
