Deep inside the rock, nature creates a world of its own. The Shasta Caverns replica at Turtle Bay Museum shows a world shaped over time. Mineral formations slowly grow in the dark, and life thrives in surprising places. Watch for bats flying above, insects that have adapted to the darkness, and the amazing formations that make caves so special. Free for members | Included with admission

Digger, Turtle Bay’s North American badger, is a quick learner, a skilled digger, and even a bit of a celebrity. He brings a lot to the table. Digger was found orphaned in southern Oregon and arrived at Turtle Bay as a young badger. Since then, he has impressed the Animal Care staff with his intelligence and problem-solving skills, often learning new behaviors in just one or two training sessions. You might even recognize him. Digger made his national TV debut as Bucky the Badger on New Girl, and he has also appeared in documentaries and films. Badgers like Digger are built for life underground and can dig up to three feet per minute with their strong front claws, making burrows as they look for prey. They are skilled hunters, clever collaborators who sometimes team up with coyotes, and their sense of smell is much stronger than ours. Want to see him in action? You can catch Digger in the Walk on the Wild Side Animal Show, which runs Tuesday through Sunday until August 9. Shows take place in our Forest Amphitheater at 11am and noon.
