Don’t miss this! A few tickets are still available for our House and Garden Open Day on Sunday 25th August. It’s a very special opportunity to visit 2 houses on the Turn End estate. Turn End and Middle Turn have a similar plan around a courtyard garden and the same simple and honest use of materials with quarry tiled floor, exposed timber beams and white painted blockwork, but they all enable much personal creativity and individual expression by the occupants in terms of decoration and use of the living spaces. You can also explore Turn End’s own Grade II listed garden and visit the studio of Artist in Residence Heather Hunter, located on the Turn End estate. Teas and homemade cakes plus books (Houses by Peter Aldington, and A Garden and Three Houses) and home-grown plants for sale. #turnend #peteraldington #turnendtrust

Turn End House and Garden Open Day Peter Aldington’s three village houses; The Turn, Middle Turn and Turn End in Haddenham, Buckinghamshire were designed and built in the 1960s, with Peter and his wife Margaret doing much of the building work themselves. A fantastic day opening the doors to Turn End and Middle Turn. Thank you all so much for coming! Our next open day is in May 2025. We only open twice a year, so please book early. #turnend #turnendtrust #peteraldington #1960shouse #postwar #postwarmodern #postwararchitecture #heritagehome

As we approach the end of the year, we reflect on some important milestones… From Peter and Margaret enjoying a sunny lunch outside the freshly built Turn End decades ago, to the three houses receiving a RIBA Award for Architecture in 1970 and being listed at Grade II* in 2006, Historic England listing Turn End garden at Grade II in 2017, and earlier this year being admitted to the Iconic Houses Network - it had been a remarkable journey. These acknowledgements place us within a global community committed to preserving thoughtful design and the homes that help shape modern living. As we continue our work towards Turn End 2045, we look forward to sharing more stories from the archive and updates from the Trust 💫

It is with great sadness that we share the news of the death of Peter Aldington on 15 April 2026. Peter was a remarkable architect whose work reflected a lifelong commitment to the relationship between buildings and the landscapes that surround them. His legacy will live on in the buildings he so thoughtfully crafted and in the generations of architects his work has inspired. The Trust and the Aldington family will continue to promote and protect his work and memory. We ask that friends and supporters respect the family’s wish for privacy at this time and we look forward to celebrating Peter’s life and work with you in the weeks ahead. The House and Garden Open Day, scheduled for Sunday 24th May, has been cancelled.

NEW EVENTS 📣 Join us this spring for one of our NGS Open Gardens, an Easter Spring Talk, plus ‘pick your own’ 🌷 at our neighbouring sustainable flower farm — and a rare visit to Picker House: an exceptional example of late modernist domestic architecture and a remarkable expression of the cosmopolitan life of its original owner, Stanley Picker. Both Turn End Trust and Picker House are proudly part of Iconic Houses. All events now on our website. As part of our charitable objectives, Turn End Trust visits other significant examples of modern architecture and designed landscapes to broaden understanding. As a listed garden shaped by Peter Aldington’s thoughtful design and decades of careful stewardship, Turn End has also long championed practices that work with the seasons and celebrate the craft of growing. More onsite and offsite events to other examples are on the way. Stay tuned 👀 and join our mailing list. We look forward to welcoming you soon! #peteraldington #turnend #turnendtrust

Turn End Trust is growing! 2nd Call for Trustees – horticulture, marketing, education and community engagement At Turn End, we believe Peter and Margaret Aldington’s self-made home and garden should remain open and accessible as a leading example of pioneering domestic architecture from the 1960s. The Aldingtons want their home to inspire future designers and serve as a source of learning and creativity. Our dedicated trustees share their passion for architecture and garden design. The Trust is at a crucial stage where we, along with the Aldingtons, are planning the bequest and future management of their property. We’re seeking individuals who can contribute to this vision and bring valuable expertise and professional skills to our board as we navigate this transition and ensure its long-term success. Our Trustee’s Board is strong and we’d like to make it even stronger. We’re seeking individuals with skills and experience in horticulture, marketing, education and training. To find out more, please get in touch via [email protected].

A fantastic two days welcoming Oxford Brookes Unit B from the Oxford School of Architecture to examine and survey the house and gardens. Through close study of Peter’s Aldington’s construction methods and his response to local vernacular and landscape, the students are developing a project exploring mutual aid and the ways Turn End operates within its social infrastructure and immediate surroundings. Good luck all - we look forward to your exhibition in May 😃
