Who’s behind the mask? No one really knows, but let us introduce you to Tul8te anyway.
The thick white crocheted mask and the soft eyes gazing through it have become the emblem of one of the region’s biggest breakout musical acts. What started as curiosity has turned into something closer to affection. Maybe because his lyrics hit where it hurts, or maybe because everyone loves a little mystery.
“All of Egypt was like, ‘Who is Tul8te?” he tells us. “As if I was a spy!”
Without a name or a face, he says he’s letting the music do the talking – with only a few moments where he actually does, like his candid interview with @zinya.salfiti for his first ever cover.
He chats about how anonymity becomes transformation – something like Clark Kent turning into Superman. “I can’t lie, saraha, there are superhero vibes,” he laughs. “When I wear the mask I’m a totally different character. When I take it off, no one knows me. It’s worth the hassle.”
