Some dance videos from the beginning of this year! (Feb-March)
This is the first post to start documenting my dance process here. I am usually hesitant to share, waiting for the day I’ll finally have something I think is “good enough” to post. Its so easy to criticize ourselves, to watch our videos 20 times and wish we had done better. But what happened to just doing it because we love it? Why do we feel the pressure to do perfect? Will we really ever reach a point where we can say “I’m satisfied, I made it”?
As I question and push back against this voice, I realized that sharing these videos is also an important step in my journey towards building self-compassion.
So here are some videos of classes I took this year that I enjoyed and/or challenged me!
I loved getting to look back at these and see how far I’ve come since the beginning of the year, how I’ve grown, what I’ve accomplished, and how proud I am that I continued to put in the effort and love even when it got hard.
I hope that not just in the new year, but starting NOW, we can all learn to be a bit kinder to ourselves, give ourselves grace and embrace our processes.

Some photos and highlights from my trip to Seoul with the @honorscollegeusfca !🇰🇷 I learned so much about Korean culture within the context of psychology, health and well-being. It was mind-opening to delve so deeply into another culture and discover how culture influences all parts of who we are.
I had the best time exploring the city with my partner in crime Samantha 😎
Traveling is empowering and I’m excited to do it again 💜

Since I started dancing, I’ve always focused so much on the body and the movement. I thought the most important thing to do was drill drill drill and take as many classes as possible to be what I deemed a “good dancer”. I was so focused on what dance LOOKED like and how to LOOK like the dancers I admired, that I forgot how I move.
In this video, my prompt was to be an expert on facial expressions. I felt so much resistance as the song began to play. I didn’t realize my face could help me connect to myself. I don’t remember deciding to move a certain way as I danced, because to focus on my face I had to focus on how I felt. I realized how important it is to FEEL first, and how freeing it is to express that.
I am so grateful for this experience and all that I learned through it. Now when I notice I’m in my head, I take a moment to reconnect with the music, express through my face, and trust my body. I am learning to trust the process, to accept and believe in myself.
Because sometimes it doesn’t matter what I LOOK like, it matters what I FEEL like.

Thank you so much @thegalenhooksmethod and @galenhooks , for an invaluable experience and so much knowledge I continue to grow from.
It was so fun to get out of my comfort zone by posing for photos. I love using these moments to get more comfortable with taking photos and using them as an opportunity to learn more about myself. I was happily surprised… ❤️
Me sorprendió mucho... ❤️
