Patients in rural West Texas once traveled long distances for treatment. Now they can get the care they need closer to home.
Pancreatic cancer accounts for about 3% of all cancers in the U.S., but about 8% of all cancer deaths, according to the @AmericanCancerSociety . Guest expert for this episode, Tyler Mouw, M.D., is chief and fellowship program director for the division of surgical oncology, and a surgical oncologist with Texas Tech Physicians and assistant professor in the @TTUHSC School of Medicine. @TAMUhealth and @TTUHSC joined forces again with help from Texas Tech Physicians, to bring rural health solutions to rural Burton, Texas. The 40-foot shipping container, a “Texas Aggie Medical Clinic” retrofitted by @BUILDtamu , will provide telehealth options to the rural community accustomed to driving miles for medical care. Patients at the Burton - Southern Clinic will be able to access primary care via telehealth courtesy of Texas Tech Physicians.
